Terex | Unit Rig
Reliable diesel-electric trucks

Terex Corporation’s Unit Rig brand provides the most reliable diesel-electric mining trucks from 120- to 360-ton capacity, according to the manufacturer. The machine’s Truck Recording Information Payload System, or TRIPS, continually monitors the haul truck’s performance parameters and payload. High-pressure sensors are installed at all four suspension points, and truck-mounted electronic hardware and software record and store performance and payload information for real-time display and management reporting functions. According to the manufacturer, the brand’s proprietary microprocessor programs provide truck payloads with a plus or minus 5 percent or better accuracy of a day’s haul cycles.

Siemens
Maintenance-free AC traction drives

Siemens has teamed up with Hitachi and Liebherr Mining Equipment Co. to design AC traction drives for the largest diesel electric mining trucks in the world. The drives are virtually maintenance free, and the drive system technology and support package allows an operator to minimize costs per ton of material moved during the life of the machine, meaning bigger payloads, faster cycle times, and more reliable and intelligent systems, according to the manufacturer. Its innovative control reduces brake, engine, and tire wear, and, according to the manufacturer, are more powerful than the current largest DC drives.

Hitachi Construction & Mining Products
Five percent higher torque

Deere-Hitachi’s Dash Two upgrades to its line of rigid frame haul trucks are now available on the EH700-2 and EH750-2 models in the United States. Improvements have been made in the engine, cab, frame, hydraulic oil tank, service deck, electrical system, transmission, and body. The trucks sport a 6-cylinder, 15-liter, turbocharged and charge-air-cooled engine that produced 525 gross horsepower and a 5-percent higher torque rise than the previous engines. A radiator coolant surge tank that includes a sight glass for easy access and for checking and maintaining coolant level has been added.

Significant improvements have also been made to the cab such as a larger side door for easier access, a larger rear window and opera-style windows on both sides for better visibility. The dashboard has also been redesigned, and the floor of the truck’s body is now a flat-floor design so the body does not have to be raised as high for dumping to begin, thus decreasing dump cycle time, according to the manufacturer.

Caterpillar
Lowest cost per ton

Caterpillar’s 777D off-highway truck features three body styles — dual-slope, flat floor, and mine-specific design — to help customers get the lowest cost-per-ton hauling solution, according to the company. The machine’s engine has a gross power of 1,000 horsepower, a 100-ton payload capacity, and has a 360,000-pound gross machine operating weight. To deliver constant power with a wide range of operating speeds, the truck also features a seven-speed planetary power shift transmission that is matched with a direct-injection diesel engine. Two-stage hoist cylinders also provide quick dump cycle times of 15 seconds to raise and 13 seconds to lower.

Hitachi Construction & Mining Products
Proprietary AC drive technology

The EH5000, Hitachi’s largest rigid frame haul truck, uses Hitachi-Euclid’s proprietary AC drive technology. The truck is available with a choice of 2,700 horsepower engines or an optional 3,000-horsepower engine. Equipped with the company’s standard heavy-duty body, the truck has a 351-ton maximum payload capacity and a 1.16 million-pound maximum gross machine weight. Actual payload capacity can range from 320 to 360 tons. The manufacturer claims its drive system has 51 percent more rimpull and 37 percent more retarding speed than competing AC systems. The company also says the machine is 2 to 3 percent more efficient than comparable DC drives.

Liebherr
35 percent more output

Liebherr Mining’s T282 B diesel-electric mining truck has a payload capacity of 400 short tons, and a maximum operating weight of 1.3 million pounds, putting the truck in a class of its own. Equipped with a 20-cylinder MTU DDC diesel engine with 3,650 horsepower, the machine provides 35 percent more engine output than before, has better acceleration, and allows higher speeds to be maintained on gradients when transporting heavy loads, according to the manufacturer. More than 200 product improvements have been made to this upgraded model, including a 10 percent larger cab with ergonomically designed controls and integrated ROPS within the cab frame increasing the operator’s field of view.

Komatsu
Advanced transmission technology

Komatsu’s HD46-7 off-highway dump truck is Tier 2 compliant and features a turbo-charged engine that enables the 217, 820-pound haul truck to handle up to a 61-ton capacity payload. This model, which replaces the HD465-5, has a fully hydraulic brake system to allow for increased steering response and to help reduced operator fatigue.

The machine also features the company’s advanced transmission technology to provide smoother shifting, improved operator comfort, and a longer life cycle for drive-train components, according to the company. The 715-flywheel horsepower truck also has an automatic emergency steering system, multiple braking systems, and a large, automatic retarder. A Roll-Over Protective Structure and Falling Object Protective Stricture come standard on the machine, and a rock deflector provides additional operator safety.
