Combination Plant on Tracks
Terex Pegson used BAUMA to show its new 1000SR
mobile plant which combines the company’s 1000 Maxtrak cone crushing
plant with a double-deck screen and recirculation system, all on the
same track-mounted chassis. The company recommends the new model for
secondary and tertiary applications in quarrying where high quality, low
flake, single-size aggregate, and “all in” sub-base materials are
required.
New scalping/screening plant
Powerscreen says its new highly mobile Horizon
5163 precision scalping and screening plant is essentially as smaller,
more economical version of the job-proven 800-tph Horizon 6203. The new
plant is designed to handle material up to 10 inches and can produce up
to 600 tons per hour of high-specification products (such a for concrete
and roadbuilding or paving) with materials such as natural and crushed
aggregates, crushed and recycled concrete, and asphalt, coal and iron
ore. Powerscreen also recommends the plant for closed-circuit primary,
secondary, and tertiary crushing setups to achieve high tonnages of
fine-sized product meeting strict specifications.
Dust control skirting
Fold-n-Seal from Argonics is a new two-part skirting that features a 3/4 -inch thick primary seal combined with a flexible secondary seal to keep material and dust contained on the conveyor belt. The product can be purchased with its proprietary Wedge-Loc clamp or it fits easily to most manufacturers’ existing skirtboard clamping systems, according to Argonics.
Solves screening problems
Samscreen developed The Grizzly Finger Deck for
screening applications where clogging, blinding, or breakage may be an
issue. Its finger deck design uses 1 3/8-inch thick forged steel tines
that can withstand heavy impact and abrasion, an adjustable
cross-section pitch for easily increased or decreased material feed, and
a step-deck design that allows material to cascade from one cross
section to the next for increased efficiency. The new deck can be custom
manufactured to a customer’s specifications in a week, according to
Samscreen.
Two new production excavators
Terex O&K introduced two new production
excavator models at Europe’s BAUMA trade show in April. The 122-ton RH
70 is designed to work with 50- to 120-ton trucks and features a 10.5
cubic yard bucket, electric-over-hydraulic controls, and the largest cab
in its class. Also debuting was the B-series version of the company’s
500-ton shovel, the RH340-B. Two 3,000-horsepower engines power the
leviathan machine, and the new series features a more powerful hydraulic
system with higher-capacity pumps.
More power, less fuel
Hitachi says the new 37,900-pound ZX160LC-3 gets
10 percent more horsepower from its Tier 3 engine than the preceding
model had, but uses less fuel thanks to a three-mode operating system.
The company says the dash-3 can use up to 13 percent less fuel in
Economy mode than the single-mode model it replaces. The extra
horsepower feeds across the board performance improvements: 6 percent
more swing torque, 39 percent more hydraulic flow, 20 percent faster arm
roll-in, and 15 percent faster boom lower/arm movement. The new model
also has 2,400 pounds more operating weight for better stability and
lift capacity, and strengthened undercarriage, X-beam, side frames,
idler attachment, and front attachment for longer service life.
Crushing and screening acquisition
Sandvik is purchasing two European manufacturers
of mobile crushing and screening equipment, Extec Screens and Crushers
near Birmingham, England, and Fintec Crushing and Screening Ltd near
Belfast, Northern Ireland. Sandvik described both firms as leaders in
the mobile crushing and screening field, with strong R&D and modern
manufacturing facilities. Their products, described as mid-size and
light crushing and screening equipment, will help Sandvik extend its
product offerings, according to Lars Josefsson, president of Sandvik
Mining and Construction.
Improved electric tarping system
Roll-Rite has improved its retrofit kit used to electrically power truck bed tarping systems. The company’s new 10900 electric kit boasts a heavy-duty relay with silver alloy (rather than copper) contacts for increased resistance to corrosion. The new relay exceeds the 30-amp rating required to run Roll-Rite tarp systems. The company claims its kit is often retrofitted to run competitive electric tarping systems as well as the Roll-Rite products.
New 24-ton excavator debuts
Kobelco says its new 47,800-pound SK210LC Acera
Mark 8 excavator has industry-leading buck and arm digging forces as
well as unmatched precision control. The 150-horsepower machine has a
new Tier 3 engine that delivers 14 percent more torque, which
contributes to a 10-percent increase in swing torque. A power boost
feature provides 10 percent more power on command for increased bucket
breakout force, without time limitations. Other new features include an
ergonomically improved cab and faster, simpler maintenance.
Automatic service log
OEM Data Delivery has introduced what it calls “an intuitive electronic diary” for capturing detailed information on service and repair activities in a shop or field environment. The OEM DD system gathers information on the location, the equipment being maintained, date/time, type of work (e.g. mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, preventive), and the specific task or reason for the service. It also tracks the disposition of the machine from staging through completion and helps capture indirect costs such as travel and administrative activities. It is paperless and wireless — it uses radio technology to transmit data — and it provides managers the intelligence and analytics for understanding what tasks take the most time, what equipment breaks down most often, and other useful metrics.
Briefs
KPI-JCI has released extensive new brochures for seven product lines. The new literature ranges from the 14-page Material Separation Solutions to a 22-page presentation of the company’s new crushers.
Volvo Construction Equipment has claimed the world’s No. 1 spot in wheel loader sales thanks to the 70-percent purchase of Chinese manufacturer Lingong late last year. Volvo CE chief Tony Helsham said the company will sell around 25,000 wheel loaders a year. Volvo CE also claims to be number one in articulated haulers and number four in hydraulic excavators worldwide.
Godwin Pumps has completed a large-scale factory redesign and expansion that it says will result in faster, more flexible product deliveries, and better product availability.
