Komatsu opened a manufacturing operation in Newberry, S.C. The 200,000-sq. ft. facility is the new home for production of four Komatsu backhoe loaders. This plant is an addition to Komatsus two other plants in Chattanooga, Tenn., and Peoria, Ill.
ESCO and its Engineered Products Group adopted a new logo featuring a red oval and gray metallic blade. The logo, which replaces the previous 80-year-old scroll logo, was changed to help better unite the corporate image.
McLanahan Corp. named Bruce Daskivich assistant sales manager, minerals processing equipment. Daskivich began his career at McLanahan in 1994. He has had responsibility for selling all of McLanahans crushing, feeding, and breaking equipment throughout the world.
Classifier makes four products
Eagle Iron Works offers a new four-cell classifying tank, which comes equipped with four discharge valves and two material-sensing assemblies per tank station, allowing classification of four sand products. The tank features a four-cell fine material collecting flume to help recombine sand particles for distribution. According to the manufacturer, the tank can handle large volume feed slurries with high tonnages.
On-board scales have split-weigh function
Loadrite introduces the Loadrite Pro and Loadrite Express weighing systems. The Loadrite Pro features a split weighing capability, which is designed to give the operator the ability to run individual totals for loading truck and trailer units. An automatic truck target weight feature sets the appropriate target weight for an individual truck. Loadrite Express also has the split weighing component and overload and over-target error alerts.
Motorgrader system uses GPS sensors
The new GradeStar 3D motorgrader machine control system from Leica is designed to use precise inputs from GPS or TPS sensors to control the position and attitude of the motorgraders blade to match a computerized digital terrain model, according to the manufacturer. The 3D position of the blade is measured by a mast-mounted GPS antenna or by a 360-degree prism. A variety of GPS and TPS sensors are available for the GradeStar system.
Caps protect idler bearings
Luff Industries polycap idlers have end
caps with high-strength polymers surrounding a factory greased and sealed bearing. This is designed to make the idler corrosion resistant, lightweight, and maintenance-free, according to the manufacturer. A triple labyrinth seal and an oil-saturated felt ring are encased in the polycap using ultrasonic welding. The polycap is pressed into a steel tube and has smooth radius edges that are designed to prevent belt tearing, according to the manufacturer.
Manage fleets via the web
Hoss Equipment Co.s Fleetedge is a Web-enabled application system and service provider designed to help control fleet management. It provides current information on operating hours, GPS location, engine oil pressure, and hydraulic oil temperature. A black box is installed on the equipment to transfer information to the main database.

Large excavator upgraded
Komatsus PC1250-7 hydraulic excavator replaces the companys model P1100LC-6. The new excavator is a 651-hp, 251,000-lb. machine with two working modes and a heavy lift circuit designed to allow the operator to match machine speed and power to a job. The PC1250-7 features an open-center, load-sensing, and engine speed-sensing hydraulic system with four variable-capacity pumps to help enhance the machines speed and flexibility.
Engine guarantee covers repair, rental vehicle
Cummins introduced an Uptime Guarantee program for its heavy-duty truck engines that passed last Octobers emissions requirements. Under the guarantee, if any part on the customers ISX or ISM engine fails and cannot be repaired within a 24-hour period, Cummins will pay for the repairs and provide a rental vehicle at no additional cost. The Uptime Guarantee applies to Cummins ISX and ISM engines purchased between October 2002 and March 31, 2003, with coverage from the date of purchase until Dec. 31, 2003.
