Accurate Aggregate Moisture Measure

The James Trident T-90 Moisture Meter uses microwave technology to determine the moisture content of sand, gravel, crushed stone and other aggregates. Equipped with a five-pronged sensor, the unit measures the dielectric constant of the material under test. Changes in water content directly affect the sensor output, which the integrated microprocessor converts and displays as percentage of dry weight. The unit is pre-calibrated for sand and aggregates, but it can be programmed to accurately measure moisture in up to 10 materials, according to the company. It can store more than 150 readings, each including the time and date of test.

Dust Collector Offers High Moisture Resistance

Gold Series Cartridge Dust and Fume Collector from Camfil Farr uses a new Poly-Tech media, a silicone-impregnated polyester/cellulose media with filtration efficiency and high humidity resistance, according to the company. The unit is suited to remove fine dusts generated in powder and bulk solids applications.

The Finlay Siltmaster range of dewatering and silt-control products, from Finlay Hydrascreens USA Inc., can remove waste water—down to 300 parts per million (0.03 percent)—according to the company. Finlay says that this allows the use of a closed-loop system where the wastewater goes from the last discharge part of the existing system, through the Finlay system, and then back to the wash screen for reuse. The unit can handle up to 1,200 gpm with water solids content up to 15 percent. By controlling water flow and adding polymer flocculent, the unit can put more than 99 percent of solids back on the ground with low moisture content, according to the company.

The unit provides a unique modulating frequency waveform that hits the resonant frequency of the calcium carbonate molecules, causing them to lose their adhesive properties. Existing scale is also removed, according to the company. The product is non-invasive and adds nothing to the water.

The new oils are designed for exhaust gas recirculation engines—developed to comply with EPA-mandated emissions reductions—and for enhanced performance in older diesel engines, according to the company. CSC Scientific Company, Inc. offers Endecotts Standard Sieves in stainless steel. The ISO 9002 company says it offers the durable, accurate sieves at an economic price. The sieves come with an ASTM E-11 conformity. Endecotts says with its unique fillet design, it makes the sieves easy to clean and it also keeps the mesh taut. According to the company, stainless steel is harder and more durable than brass.

The unit is an adaptation of the Gilson SP-1 adjustable splitter, but designed so that all in-lab sample handling operations are done inside the splitter. Samples, brought into the lab in a SPA-100 pan, are placed in a slot inside the top of the splitter through a hinged door. After closing the door, the pan is dumped into the hopper by an external lever. When the confined dust settles, a second external lever releases sample material through adjustable chutes into two pans below, enclosed by spring-held covers.
