Apple Valley, California, firefighters fought a hydraulic fluid fire Tuesday at the Cemex Black Mountain Quarry plant, the Daily Press reports [2].

Firefighters with the Apple Valley Fire Protection District (AVFPD) battled the blaze, which was confined to one room in the processing structure, for about two hours before getting the fire under control.

The firefighters used about 40 large fire extinguishers and “an aggressive water and foam operation” to stop the fire.

AVFPD Fire Marshal Jason Nailon told the Daily Press that the fire may have been caused by a pressurized system leak. He added that the high ignition temperature associated with a hydraulic fluid fire makes it burn longer and hotter than other flammable liquids.

The fire caused about $50,000 in damage.
