The California Transportation Commission (CTC) allocated $236 million in new funding to 32 projects that Caltrans says will improve the state’s transportation system and strengthen California’s economy.

“From one end of the state to the other, transportation projects are providing jobs, while at the same time reducing traffic congestion for people and businesses in California,” said Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty.

The allocations include $81 million from Proposition 1B, a transportation bond approved by voters in 2006. In total, nearly $14.5 billion in Proposition 1B funds have been distributed statewide.

The remaining $155 million in allocations came from assorted transportation accounts funded by state and federal dollars.

Among the projects that received funding allocations were:

• $34.95 million for Route 91 Auxiliary Lane Connection in Fullerton and Anaheim, westbound from Route 57 to Interstate 5, to construct a lane on existing auxiliary lanes through interchanges to form a continuous fourth lane.

• $695,000 for Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo Metrolink Parking Expansion, to construct 176-space surface parking lot adjacent to the Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo Metrolink Station parking lot.
• $607,000 for Wildlife Corridor Connectivity Enhancement at the Coal Canyon Road Interchange, to install vegetation enhancements.

The CTC also redistributed $21 million in federal funding to 22 alternate projects chosen by transportation agencies statewide. The funding comes from $43 million that was originally allocated to other transportation projects but was not spent. The outstanding $22 million in unspent funding will remain with the original projects and must be authorized by December 31.
