RACINE, Wis. – Kobelco Construction Machinery America today introduced the SK210 full-size, high-performance excavator to the Kobelco Mark 9 excavator series. These new Tier 4 models include the SK260, SK295, SK350 and SK485 excavators. The versatile SK210 Mark 9 delivers a 10-percent improvement in both fuel efficiency and productivity, with more power and faster engine response.

Featuring an upgrade to Kobelco’s legendary intelligent hydraulics and a new Economy power mode, the SK210 Mark 9 is equipped with the industry’s first selective catalytic reduction (SCR) emission solution for excavators. A new ROPS/FOPS certified cab provides a larger, more comfortable work environment, and a low engine cover and standard rear-view camera improve operator visibility and productivity.

For improved system efficiency and reduced component wear, the Kobelco SK210 Mark 9 also features a fully automatic engine and hydraulic warm-up system. This warms the hydraulic circuit to an optimum 126° F (52° C).

“As with all the Mark 9 models, the SK210 continues Kobelco’s tradition as a technology leader,” said Reece Norwood, Kobelco platform manager. “This new machine delivers the precise control and feel expert operators prefer. The SK210 Mark 9 can dig the trench, crane the pipe and finish with even better precision. Plus, our new SCR solution will deliver more useable engine power and fuel efficiency.”

The Kobelco SK210 Mark 9 features an operating weight of 47,840 lbs (21,700 kg) and a dig depth of 21 ft 3 in (6.47 m). The new model delivers 160 horsepower (119.3 kW).

Improved controllability and productivity

The upgraded Intelligent Total Control System™ (ITCS) incorporates the culmination of three generations of continuous improvement in hydraulic controls, based on extensive customer input and product testing.

“The SK210 Mark 9 excavator maximizes the unique capabilities of its Tier 4 Interim certified FPT engine and optimized hydraulics with the upgraded ITCS,” Norwood said. “ITCS recognizes the operator’s moves and assists by providing power where and when it is needed. It also provides hydraulic sensitivity for fine grading and leveling.”

Integrated swing priority, a Kobelco first, provides seamless and smooth transition of additional pump power to the swing function. Automatic hydraulic regeneration feeds the cylinder demanding oil first, with oil that is being pushed out of another cylinder. This requires much less energy than having to re-pump the oil again, and also allows the next action to happen with faster response. The independent travel feature, activated with a switch, dedicates a pump to travel motors for better movement while performing other functions, such as when handling pipe while moving to the trench.

“The Kobelco Mark 9 excavators set the industry standard in terms of controllability, especially in multifunction applications,” Norwood said. “Operators will appreciate the impressive control and smoothness of the SK210 Mark 9, and the added confidence will make them even more productive. The ease of operation makes a good operator a great operator, and allows a novice excavator operator to be a good, productive operator.”

Kobelco Mark 9 upgrades to the main valve and intelligent hydraulics, as well as new joysticks with proportional controls for the auxiliary hydraulics, contribute to the controllability upgrades of this new excavator.

The Power Boost™ feature on the SK210 Mark 9 delivers 10-percent more bucket breakout force on command, without time limit, while the Heavy Lift delivers 10-percent more lifting and swing capability on command, without time limit.

SCR engine technology

By choosing SCR technology for meeting Tier 4 Interim emissions regulations, Kobelco provides leadership in engine performance, productivity and fuel efficiency. SCR is an after-treatment only solution that allows the excavator’s engine to do what it does best – generate power. The high efficiency in the combustion process significantly reduces fuel consumption while improving power. SCR with diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) is also the preferred choice for working in extreme temperatures.

“The average rate of consumption of DEF is about five percent of fuel, so refilling is only required every fourth or fifth fuel tank refill – or, on average, every eight to ten days.” Norwood said.

The upgrade to electronic control of the common rail fuel injection on the SK210 Mark 9 excavator gains efficiency, while also providing more exact fuel metering and fuel/air ratio.

ROPS/FOPS certified cab

The larger, isolation-mounted cab on the SK210 Mark 9 excavator accommodates all operator sizes and features rollover (ROPS) and falling object (FOPS) protection. Repositioned controls, moveable front and door windows and more glass improve visibility from the sides of the cab.

A new control monitor provides key operating data – including a new function which graphs fuel consumption per hour – and a rear camera view to expand the operator’s view to the back of the machine. An optional air-suspension seat with heated cushions provides additional operator comfort.

Three working modes, two attachment modes

To match work operations, the work mode system provides three modes – H Mode, for heavy-duty excavation and loading work, gives priority to the workload at high speed; S Mode, for standard digging and loading work, provides versatility; and E Mode, for economy, leverages more of the intelligent hydraulics features to deliver exceptional fuel efficiency with productivity for normal digging conditions – and two attachment modes – B Mode, breaker/hammer optimized (1-way hydraulic flow); and A Mode, for auxiliary attachment work such as demolition with a crusher/nibbler breaker or shear (2-way/2-pump flow).

Meeting a wide range of applications

One of the most productive machines in its size class, the Kobelco SK210 Mark 9 is engineered for a variety of applications, including road and bridge, sewer and underground utilities, as well as site development. The excavator is available with several factory-available configurations – including High & Wide, Long Reach and Mass Excavation versions – and a choice of three undercarriage options. Heavy-duty frames, booms, arms and undercarriages are standard on all Mark 9 excavators.

The SK210 Mark 9 Long Reach, ideal for dredging and bigger ditch cleaning jobs, has a maximum reach of 52 feet. The SK210 Mark 9 High & Wide has a more stable stance, making it ideal for such applications as craning large pipe, loading out trucks and scrap and forestry work.

An optional reinforced, severe duty undercarriage is available for working in forestry, rock or with single grouser track shoes. An optional special application package, featuring High & Wide undercarriage, reinforced frame, guarding, auxiliary hydraulics with extra rotation pump, and provisions for a cab riser, is available for above-ground applications such as forestry and scrap handling.

Additional features on the new Kobelco SK210 Mark 9 excavator include swing flashers and step extensions. Plug-in capability for telematics is standard on all Mark 9 excavators. For even greater productivity and precision, all Kobelco Mark 9 excavators are compatible with grade control systems from leading suppliers to meet customer preference and applications.

RACINE, Wis. – Kobelco Construction Machinery America today introduced a new full-size, high-performance excavator, the SK485. The largest of the Kobelco Mark 9 excavator series – which includes the SK210, SK260, SK295 and SK350 excavators – the Tier 4 SK485 Mark 9 delivers up to 15-percent improvement in fuel efficiency, while maintaining exceptional productivity.

The new SK485 Mark 9 excavator features an upgrade to Kobelco’s legendary intelligent hydraulics, and a new Economy power mode that delivers improved fuel efficiency – 15-percent better fuel efficiency for normal digging conditions as compared to previous models. The machine also features a Tier 4 Interim Hino engine equipped with cooled exhaust gas recirculation (CEGR) emission technology. A new ROPS/FOPS cab provides a larger, more comfortable work environment. A low engine cover and standard rear-view camera improve visibility and operator productivity.

“With the SK485, Kobelco continues its tradition as a technology leader,” said Reece Norwood, Kobelco platform manager. “Long known for delivering the precise control and feel expert operators prefer, the Kobelco SK485 excavator can dig the trench, crane the pipe and finish with even better precision. Plus, the new CEGR solution will achieve lower operating costs, while also maintaining efficiency, performance, power and reliability.”

The Kobelco SK485 features an operating weight of 111,774 lbs (50,700 kg), and a dig depth of 25 ft 7.5 in (7.81 m). The new model delivers 345 horsepower (257 kW).

Improved controllability and productivity

The upgraded Intelligent Total Control System™ (ITCS) incorporates the culmination of three generations of continuous improvement in hydraulic controls, based on extensive customer input and product testing.

“The Kobelco Mark 9 excavators set the industry standard in terms of controllability, especially in multifunction applications,” Norwood said. “Operators will appreciate the impressive control and smoothness of the new SK485 Mark 9, and the added confidence will make them even more productive. The ease of operation allows even a novice excavator operator to be productive on the job.”

Integrated swing priority, a Kobelco first, provides seamless and smooth transition of additional pump power to the swing function. Automatic hydraulic regeneration feeds the cylinder demanding oil first, with oil that is being pushed out of another cylinder. This requires much less energy than having to re-pump that oil again, and also allows the next action to happen with faster response. The independent travel feature, activated with a switch, dedicates a pump to travel motors for better movement while performing other functions, such as when handling pipe while moving to the trench.

CEGR engine technology

Kobelco selected CEGR technology for meeting Tier 4 Interim emissions regulations on the SK485 Mark 9 based on the excavator’s high-production application, engine selection and the unique capabilities of Kobelco’s hydraulic and electronic systems. The engine technology meets the EPA’s Tier 4 Interim emissions standards, while delivering even better performance and fuel efficiency. Kobelco’s system approach to Tier 4, including upgrades to the ITCS hydraulics, keeps the SK485 Mark 9 in a class by itself when compared to the fuel efficiency of other brands of excavators for Tier 4 Interim.

With the CEGR system, controlled amounts of exhaust gas are cooled, blended with fresh air and then returned to the cylinder, lowering combustion temperatures and significantly reducing nitrogen oxides (NOx). The levels of particulate matter are then reduced through the use of an after-treatment diesel particulate filter (DPF) system.

“While other excavators require operators to slow or stop during automatic DPF regeneration cycles, Kobelco’s CEGR system is configured to allow for very brief periodic regeneration cycles that don’t slow or interrupt the excavator’s operation,” Norwood said.

ROPS/FOPS cab

The larger, isolation-mounted cab on the SK485 Mark 9 excavator accommodates all operator sizes and features standard rollover (ROPS) and falling object (FOPS) protection. Repositioned controls, moveable front and door windows and more glass improve visibility from the sides of the cab.

A new control monitor provides key operating data – including a new function which graphs fuel consumption per hour – and a rear camera view to expand the operator’s view to the back of the machine. An optional air-suspension seat with heated cushions provides additional operator comfort and productivity.

Meeting a wide range of applications

The SK485 Mark 9 is one of the most productive machines in its size class. This machine is engineered for heavy applications, including road and bridge, sewer and underground utilities and mainline pipeline construction.

To meet customers’ needs for a wide variety of applications, the Kobelco SK485 Mark 9 excavator is available with several factory-available configurations – including High & Wide, Demolition and Mass Excavation versions – allowing for larger buckets up to 5.5 yd3 (4.21 m3) for mining or other high-production excavation jobs. Heavy-duty frames, booms, arms and undercarriages are standard on all Mark 9 excavators.

The SK485 Mark 9 High & Wide version has a more stable stance, making it ideal for such applications as craning large pipe, scrap handling or forestry work.

Additional features on the new Kobelco SK485 Mark 9 excavator include swing flashers and step extensions. Plug-in capability for telematics is standard on all Mark 9 excavators.
LAS VEGAS – Case Construction Equipment today launched its CX210C full-sized excavator at the World of Concrete 2012 show. The most recent addition to the company’s C Series product line, the CX210C model features increased fuel efficiency, productivity and improved serviceability and operator comfort.

The new Case CX210C excavator achieves 160 net hp (119 kW) using Tier 4 Interim-certified cooled exhaust gas recirculation (CEGR) technology that burns cleaner while delivering superior horsepower. A new narrow undercarriage version, measuring 8 ft 6 in (2.59 m) wide, is available for easier transport.

“The new Case CX210C excavator delivers both the lower operating costs and higher productivity that contractors expect,” said Tim O’Brien, brand marketing manager, Case Construction Equipment. He cited 10-percent fuel economy gains, 3-percent cycle time reductions and 7-percent lift capacity increases among crucial product improvements.

“An advanced version of the Case Intelligent Hydraulic System technology reduces total fuel consumption and improves performance,” O’Brien said. Boom Economy Control lowers engine RPMs during the boom down and swing operation, while the Auto Economy Control lowers RPMs when the joysticks are inactive. Swing Relief Control technology manages the hydraulic power allotted at the start of the swing operation, and Spool Stroke Control creates an automatic pressure adjustment during digging operations.

“These fuel efficiency gains are especially significant,” O’Brien explained. “While typical CEGR systems lose fuel efficiency, we’ve actually increased fuel efficiency on our Case CX210C excavator by 10 percent over the previous B Series model. While delivering exceptional fuel efficiency, the Case C Series models continue to be in the top of their class for productivity.”

He continued, “Because excavators run with little change to engine speed, CEGR technology was the best choice for efficiency and convenience.”

Increased productivity

With 3-percent faster cycle times than previous models, the new Case CX210C excavator can load more trucks or trench further during every work shift. Along with faster cycle times, the new Case excavators offer operators smoother and easier control and maneuverability.

The CX210C provides 7-percent more lift capacity and boasts a 440 lb (199.6 kg) increase in operating weight to tackle bigger jobs. The excavator has an operating weight of 47,800 lb (21,685 kg), a bucket digging force 34,171 lb (152 kN), arm digging force of 24,729 lb (110 kN) and a maximum dig depth of 21 ft 10 in (6.65 m). Standard bucket sizes range from .65 to 1.53 yd3 (.5 to 1.17 m3).

The new excavator offers three power modes – SP (speed priority), H (heavy duty) and A (automatic) – to allow operators to choose the best mix of power and fuel efficiency. The throttle settings also adjust the hydraulic settings for further tailoring to specific tasks.

Improved operator comfort, visibility

The Case CX210C excavator gives operators a more spacious, comfortable and quiet cab, with 19-percent better visibility from the operator’s seat (including a new roof skylight) compared to previous models.

Noise reduction improvements, including vibration refinement on the cab’s reinforced tubular structures, create an extra-quiet cab environment, with automotive-like noise levels as low as 69.9 dBa.

The cab on the new Case excavator provides 7-percent more overall space and 25-percent more airflow. Air conditioning performance also has increased by 8 percent.

New with the C Series is a rearview camera that feeds video to a 7-inch LED monitor in the cab, enhancing operator confidence and jobsite safety during machine operation.

“The monitor in the Case C Series excavators is large and clear,” O’Brien said. The operator can easily switch between rear and optional side camera views. Plus, they have simultaneous visibility to key operating data, including a new function which provides fuel consumption per hour. Operators can use this information to refine fuel efficiency for their particular operation.

Case engineers designed the CX210C, like other C Series excavators, with a very low profile that enhances visibility from the cab while efficiently accommodating Tier 4 emission system components.

The CX210C excavator also includes a standard air-suspension seat and an in-cab auxiliary hydraulic setting system with a new option for 10 memory-recall settings to make tool changes quick and easy for operators. A Level 1 ROPS/FOPS (rollover/falling-object protection systems) cab structure provides helps enhance operator safety.

Ease of maintenance

Extended service intervals for the Case C Series excavators help reduce operating costs, O’Brien said.

They are designed with 500-hour engine oil change intervals, 5,000-hour hydraulic oil change intervals and 1,000-hour greasing intervals with Easy Maintenance System bushings. The cab includes new access points to easily reach the air filter and fuse box. The Case CX210C excavator scored a 2-percent improvement over previous models on the SAE maintainability index.

“The new Case C Series excavators efficiently package the redesigned engine, cooling and exhaust systems while maintaining excellent serviceability and operator visibility,” O’Brien said. “The machines feature wide-open panels for easy access to service points and ground-level access to grouped lubrication points.”

Full range of attachments

Case offers a range of attachments for the CX210C and other C Series excavators, including Case Smart Digging Systems components such as pin-on buckets, coupler buckets, the Case Multi-Fit Coupler and the SmartFit™ bucket tooth system.

Case pin-on buckets are designed for heavy-duty, high-capacity applications such as digging in dense soil, clay, loose rock and gravel. The Case Multi-Fit Coupler offers complete hydraulic latching, enabling excavator operators to quickly attach and detach buckets and other components without leaving the cab. Designed for the Multi-Fit Coupler, Case coupler buckets feature integrated bucket pins to prevent any loss of breakout force that might otherwise occur when using a coupler device.

The SmartFit system provides stronger, more durable teeth and adapters, and hammerless, reusable locking pins. The SmartFit lineup includes general purpose, rock chisel, heavy penetrator, tiger, twin tiger and flare teeth.

Cardinal’s SnapStream is the only NTEP legal-for-trade wireless truck scale system on the market for commercial applications. It’s completely proprietary to Cardinal Scale and offers a number of competitive advantages for new or pre-existing scale installations. In brief, SnapStream allows a scale to send weight data wirelessly to an indicator and the indicator in turn to send that data wirelessly to a host of peripheral equipment such as remote displays, printers, PC’s and networks.

SnapStream is a digitally-controlled weighing and diagnostic system designed utilizing 802.15.4 Zigbee protocol for reliable and accurate weight and data transmission. SnapStream may be used with Cardinal’s model 205, 210, and 225 digital weight indicators, where scale diagnostics can be viewed directly on the indicator without having to go to the scale itself.

SnapStream may be configured using one to 16 load cells. The SnapStream truck scale junction box accommodates two to four 4-cell analog boards. These junction boxes perform the analog-to-digital weight conversion for each load cell and can transmit data wirelessly to Cardinal’s indicators where the weight data is displayed. Additionally, the indicators can send data wirelessly to any remote displays, printers, or local remotes Cardinal has to offer. The communications module may also be used to interface wirelessly from the weight indicator to a PC using USB, RS232 serial, or Ethernet connectivity or a printer using RS232 serial or Ethernet.

Features and Benefits:

• Eliminates buying costly home run cable to the scale, potentially saving thousands of dollars.
• Up to 1 mile distance range, line of sight (LOS).
• Eliminates cable runs to peripheral equipment such as remote displays, printers, and PC’s.
• Diagnose load cells directly from the indicator. View individual load cell millivolt outputs directly from the 200 series indicator.
• Wireless Local Remote applications.
• Reduces installation time – No more digging trenches to install home run cable.

Fully-equipped laboratories in the United States and Europe conduct free, confidential material testing services, comprehensive separation analysis, and in-depth studies and sieve analysis. Rotex partners with customers to determine optimum machine sizes, screen openings, and machine settings.

“We have over 200 years of combined application experience in our laboratory,” said Dan Ferris, engineering sales manager at Rotex Global. “Our experience and understanding of the complete process—upstream and downstream—in hundreds of different applications enable us to provide customers with the data they need to improve production and screening efficiency for their unique environment.”

“Rotex has delivered accurate field correlations for more than 100 years. Our experience allows us to tailor each machine to customers’ specific needs,” continued Ferris. “In fact, a Rotex screener has never been returned for not delivering the performance predicted in lab trials,” he added.

Selecting the proper screening equipment requires careful evaluation of many variables, including: machine size and footprint, feed rate, speed of the machine, screen mesh size, capacity, accuracy of separation, material characteristics, etc. With material testing, Rotex verifies that each customer is making the correct decision on equipment, screens, and settings for their application and environment. Often, customers visit their local Rotex laboratory during the material tests so they can see first-hand how their materials screen under varying operating conditions.

Using comprehensive separation analysis, Rotex replicates customer processes and production scenarios so that recommendations to achieve maximum production, to generate the most on-spec product, and to produce the highest possible yield can be made.

Rotex Global also offers in-depth studies and sieve analysis using a patented PC-controlled particle size analyzer that fully automates the sieve analysis process. The Gradex® automated sieve analyzer delivers accurate test results; each test is weighed the same, each sieve is brushed the same, and each sample is handled in the same manner. The test results are calculated using Microsoft Windows® based software that automatically generates a printable test report.

Gallatin, TN – Weir Minerals Linatex, a business unit within The Weir Group PLC, announces the release of two new products and one new product enhancement. These product launches provide Weir Minerals Linatex with a new competitive advantage not enjoyed by other hose manufacturers.

“The introduction of these new hose offerings proves that Weir Minerals Linatex is positioned to be the manufacturing leader in the hand-built hose market. Our products are simply better-performing, and provide advantages not offered by the competition,” says Andrew Philp, VP Comminution Product Marketing at Weir Minerals. “Plus, relative to the competition our products are competitively priced.”

Preformed hose bend

Intended as a replacement for hard walled pipe bends in slurry transfer pipelines, the Linatex® preformed hose bend provides a significant wear life improvement over standard metal pipe, especially when abrasion wear and vibration are issues. The premium Linatex® tube provides long lasting wear resistance in a rubber compound for wet slurry applications. This resilient rubber absorbs the energy from moving slurry and returns to its original form whilst dampening vibrations. Linatex® hose bends are stocked in 4” to 16” IDs in both 45⁰ and 90⁰ 3D radii.

Wear indicator system

The Linatex® wear indicator system provides a solution to many of the traditional issues surrounding the maintenance of hose in highly abrasive environments. It provides 24 hour-a-day monitoring and peace of mind.

By installing the Linatex® wear indicator system you will avoid the need for physical inspections and costly emergency maintenance downtime. Unexpected hose failures that can cause environmental spills, and health and safety incidents, will be substantially reduced.

Unlike other wear indication systems which only check for a break in the wire (continuity) to detect a go/no-go hose failure point, the Linatex® wear indicator system senses a change in resistance as measured by ohms – such precision measurement provides for more accurate results.

The Linatex® wear indicator system is a revolutionary early warning system for hose that handles highly abrasive materials.

Linatex® cut end hose and couplings

Weir Minerals Linatex has enhanced its previous cut end hose by increasing the standard working pressure to 150 PSI. Weir Minerals Linatex has also established a new coupling vendor to provide better aesthetics and performance in its reusable lightweight aluminium flanged couplings.

The Linatex® cut end hose system continues to provide an exceptionally abrasion resistant slurry hose designed to provide fast and easy on-site assembly, minimizing downtime and maintenance costs.

The HVC is designed to meet with the ever increasing site operation need for faster boom speeds, without sacrificing control. This new generation of rock breaker boom systems differ significantly by providing “fly by wire” computer assisted control, allowing simultaneous dip and hoist functionality. This enables greater production through rapid, smooth motion into and out of the gyratory crusher rock box thereby increasing the number of truck dumps per hour and overall tonnage through the crusher. In fact, tests indicate an improved boom cycle rate (in and out of the gyratory rock box) of almost 50 percent. Combined with smoother operator control and reduced stress on boom, the Smart boom boasts several upgraded features such as:

• Higher horsepower electric motor.

• Higher flow rate pumps with constant horsepower control.

• High flow directional control valve.

• Electrical boom position feedback for speed and pressure control.

• Complete system upgrade providing superior duty cycle and performance characteristics.

This provides operators unparalleled performance in:

• Improved swing speed control.

• Swing pressure control.

• Soft stops – hoist, dipper, and swing.

• Arm moment speed control.

The HVC system or smart boom utilizes state-of-the-art sensors through a computer “brain” or IQAN-CANBus system to realize real-time position and constant force values, ensuring reduced shock loading and optimum use of force and speed where needed. Easy to use and intuitively responsive to the joystick operation, it truly is the next generation of boom systems.
