Coldspring, formerly known as Cold Spring Granite, has completed its environmental assessment worksheet and is on its way to receiving approval for the expansion of its granite operation at its St. Cloud, Minnesota, site, sctimes.com reported .
The company has proposed expanding operations on it’s 210-acre property by adding a 30-acre Charcoal 3 quarry.
Matt Glaesman, St. Cloud planning director, said the expansion won’t extend the site’s boundaries; it will only add to its already-existing operations.
Among details in the proposal were plans to excavate 300 to 350 feet down in seven phases, which would take 25 to 30 years; to blast approximately three times a week; to build a 16-acre pad dedicated to crushing and processing granite; and to add an access road from the site to Stearns County Road 136.
The environmental assessment worksheet is open for public comment for just under 30 days now.
At the end of the 30 days, the St. Cloud City Council will decide whether to require an environmental impact statement in addition to the environmental assessment worksheet.
