Coldspring withdraws expansion request for St. Cloud quarry

Cold Spring Granite [1]Coldspring announced last week that it has withdrawn its request for a conditional use permit [2] that would have allowed the company to expand its quarry in St. Cloud, Missouri, according to a report from SCTimes.com [3].

The company’s request sought to open a 30-acre granite quarry and processing area on Coldspring’s 210-acre site. Coldspring intended to excavate 300 to 350 feet in seven phases over 25 to 30 years at the new quarry.

Prior to Coldspring’s withdrawal, the St. Cloud Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) was scheduled to discuss the company’s request October 15. The discussion was planned after the ZBA postponed the proposal’s previous hearing in August [4].

The SCTimes.com report noted that St. Cloud’s Planning Department released a report Thursday (the day before Coldspring’s announcement) recommending the ZBA deny the permit request because of traffic, water use and noise.

Coldspring’s decision comes just over two weeks after the company agreed to an extension of the review period for its conditional use permit [5].
