Construction industry gains 17k jobs in November

The U.S. construction industry gained 17,000 jobs in November, according to data released Friday by the Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
The gains pushed the industry from 5.834 million jobs in October  to 5.851 million jobs in November.
Total construction employment in November is 3 percent higher than in November 2012 and is the the same as the industry high in August 2009.
Unemployment in construction fell from 9.0 percent in October to 8.6 percent in November.
The U.S. as a whole saw a gain of 203,000 jobs in all industries in October, while the total unemployment rate dropped from 7.3 percent in October to 7.0 percent in November. BLS attributes the decrease in the unemployment rate to federal employees returning to work after the 16-day government shutdown in October .
