The Construction Industry Round Table (CIRT) elected Robert E. “Bob” Alger as chairman at the organization’s spring conference.
“Working collaboratively with the CIRT Board of Directors and members over the next year,” says Alger, “I will dedicate a great deal of time and energy in building a greater awareness with leaders outside of the industry as it relates to the desperate need to properly fund and improve our nation’s first-class infrastructure.”
Alger is president and CEO of The Lane Construction Corp., a heavy civil contractor. Founded by railroad engineer John S. Lane in 1890, Lane constructs quality highways, bridges, locks, dams, racetracks, and mass transit and airport systems in 20 states. In its 121-year history, Lane has never failed to complete a contract.
Alger, who has served in many key capacities within CIRT including Vice Chairman and Treasurer, started his career at Lane 32 years ago after graduating from Penn State University with a degree in civil engineering.
After serving as Job Engineer, Project Engineer, Project Manager and Vice President, Alger became president and CEO in 2001. During his decade at the helm, Lane’s revenue has grown by $700 million—to more than $1 billion currently.
A registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania, Alger is a past president of The Moles, secretary/treasurer of The Beavers, former president of ASCE’s Construction Institute, and past chair of Penn State’s Industry and Professional Advisory Council (IPAC).
This year, Alger received the Moles Award for Outstanding Achievement in Construction, and, in 2006, received the Outstanding Engineering Alumni Award from Penn State’s College of Engineering.
“Bob’s election continues a tradition of having strong leaders who represent the finest qualities and abilities in our industry,” commented Mark A. Casso, CIRT’s President. “Bob will bring energy and vision to the role of Chairman, with a dynamic leadership style,” noted Mr. Casso.
CIRT is a national business trade association comprised of approximately 105 CEOs from the leading design / construction companies doing business in the United States and globally. CIRT’s member firms directly employ over 500,000 individuals, and are responsible for more than $120 billion in public and private infrastructure work that contribute to an improved quality of life for all Americans.
Also at the annual spring conference in Washington, DC, CIRT elected the following industry executives as officers of the Board. Each will serve a one-year term.
Patrick MacLeamy (CEO of HOK Group, San Francisco, CA) as Vice Chairman; Steven T. Halverson (President & CEO of The Haskell Co., Jacksonville, FL) as Treasurer; and Linda Figg (President & CEO of Figg Engineering Group, Tallahassee, FL) will continue on the Executive Committee as Immediate Past Chairman.
