Agencies that produce federal reports such as construction spending, construction employment, housing starts and diesel fuel prices reopened Thursday following a 16-day shutdown of the federal government [2].

Most reports stopped [3] in the first week of October.

Our sister site, Better Roads, reports [4] that Congress and the White House have passed a temporary spending measure that will allow federal government agencies to remain open through January 15. The measure also extends the debt limit through February 7 [5].

The Senate reached the agreement Wednesday afternoon. A New York Times report [6] notes that the House passed the measure at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, and President Obama signed it into law around 12:30 a.m. Thursday.

Among the agencies that reopened today are the U.S. Department of Transportation [7], the U.S. Energy Information Administration [8] (EIA), the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Mine Safety and Health Administration [9] (MSHA).
