The weekly diesel fuel price report has been suspended as a result of the federal government shutdown that has been in effect for two weeks.

The information for the diesel fuel price report comes from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). Although the EIA was able to collect and post gasoline and diesel fuel updates last week [2], the agency is now closed.

A message on the EIA’s website reads:

“EIA is closed due to a lapse in appropriations. EIA will not update this website until the agency reopens.”

The shutdown started on October 1 and has affected other agencies in addition to the EIA.

The first day of the shutdown, the U.S. Department of Transportation furloughed 18,481 employees [3] and suspended most operations that are not safety-related [4]. Construction reports on spending, employment and more have been suspended [5], as well as all Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) web services [6]. The shutdown has also slowed many transportation projects [7].
