7346206508_fd3fc4269b_b [1]The Hall Quarry Planning Board in Mount Desert, Maine, is considering a proposed quarry licensing ordinance that a special citizen’s advisory committee created, Fenceviewer reported [2].

The proposed ordinance comes less than a month after residents’ appeal of a decision to allow quarrying to continue at a granite quarry site in the village of Hall Quarry [3].

At a public hearing last week, residents urged the planning board to include specific performance standards as part of the ordinance. One resident, Rick Fuerst, suggested prohibiting quarries in all zoning districts.

Jock Williams, owner of several old quarries in the area, pushed for the board to find a balance between industry needs and residential needs.

The ordinance will go to a special town meeting vote on July 25.
