Illinois DOT to spend $322 million on highway, bridge projects

llinois proposes to spend more than $322 million on 37 Rockford, Ill.-area highway and bridge projects through 2016 as part of the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Multi-Year Transportation Improvement Program, according to a report in the Rockford Register-Star .
It’s all In 2011 alone, the program includes $24 million for the Morgan Street bridge replacement; $30 million for work on Illinois 2; and intersection reconstruction projects at North Main and Auburn streets and Illinois 173 and Illinois 251, the newspaper reported.
There are 17 projects listed for Winnebago and Boone counties in 2011, but individual projects can be postponed or rescheduled based on need and funding availability, said Mike Maddox, a planner with RMAP, the area’s regional transportation planning agency, in the newspaper report.
According to the report, the plan calls for rebuilding the state road from Smythe Avenue to Alpine Road in the spring with construction done in 2012.
