Educational materials for aggregates professionals
The second edition of The Aggregates Handbook will be available on Nov. 1. The new edition offers updated content and expanded coverage on all aspects of the aggregate industry. Topics include sustainability, production technology, safety, transportation, geology, plant processing, design, technology standards, and industry trends. The 800+ page handbook focuses on three major areas:
• Locating, mining, processing, and transporting aggregates from a deposit to market;
• Aggregate users; and
• Specifications and standards, as well as sampling, testing, and quality control principles.

National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
A new survey of the U.S. mining population captures the profile of the mining workforce. A total of 737 randomly selected mining operations returned completed questionnaires and reported data for 9,008 employees. Two sets of data were collected — Part I: Employees presents the employee-level data; Part II: Mines presents the mine-level data.
National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
A new web-based training course, part of Vista’s Silver Series, focuses on the basic operation and safety of crawler dozers. The program is designed to help trainees in the construction and mining industries to become safe and productive operators. Lessons cover components, controls, and design and application.
