Educational materials for aggregates professionals
by Kerry Clines, Senior Editor
A complete and scalable solution for development of mining equipment operators blends eLearning, instructor-led training, medium- and high-fidelity simulators, and customized content and curriculum. The new tools and technologies include the following:
• SimCloud — allows operations to maintain complete visibility over local or global simulation training programs via a secure website;
• Global Operator Benchmarking — allows operations to benchmark equipment operators against global norms based on data captured from more than 23,000 operators;
• Trainer Productivity Station — alleviates the industry shortage of experienced trainers;
• SimDesktop — allows trainers and managers to take advantage of simulator data analysis and scenario configuration tools; and
• SimMentor — facilitates briefing before and debriefing after simulation training sessions.

Underground equipment report
The Underground-Mining Mobile Equipment Report, researched and written jointly by Raw Materials Group (RMG) and The Parker Bay Co., identifies approximately one-third of the mobile equipment being used in the world’s underground hard-rock mines. Supporting data on mineral production is taken from the RMG database that covers global metal output.

Electronic excavator safety manual
AEM’s first safety manual e-book, the Hydraulic Excavator Safety Manual, enables equipment operators to access safety information wherever they carry mobile devices. The e-book features user-friendly options such as variable type, bookmarks, the ability to embed and e-mail notes, content search, and a low-light reading format. It also allows AEM to more easily distribute safety information globally and extend the reach of its safety messaging.

A new handbook, Best Practices for Dust Control in Metal/Nonmetal Mining, was developed to identify available engineering controls that can assist underground and surface metal/nonmetal mining operations in reducing worker exposure to respirable silica dust. The controls range from long-used controls, which have developed into industry standards, to newer controls, which are still being optimized.

A new brochure, Test Methods Differ, Outcomes Don’t…Xtreme Rare Earth Magnets are the Strongest, explains that most equipment manufacturers offer similar tools to measure a permanent magnet’s pull test strength, yet each test kit yields different results. The brochure goes on to explain that when using the same test kit, Eriez Xtreme Rare Earth Magnets consistently score higher than other magnetic assemblies.
