A proposed limestone quarry in Buffalo County, Wisconsin, could be on its way to opening thanks to an endorsement from the county’s zoning board.
Buffalo County’s Land Resources Committee unanimously voted to recommend the county Board of Adjustment issue a conditional-use permit the a quarry, which would be located in Montana, Wisconsin, WinonaDailyNews.com reported on Monday .
Hildegard Bragger Trust of Montana and Gerke Excavating LLC of Tomah, Wisconsin, applied for a permit in September. The companies want to mine limestone for use in road work projects, driveways, parking lots and more. The limestone would also be crushed and screened on-site.
The two-phase operation would last up to 20 years, with the site producing about 300,000 tons of limestone each year. The companies expects to haul 13,600 truck loads annually, which equals about 50 trucks per day.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has already approved a reclamation plan for returning the property to pasture and woodland after quarrying is finished.
In addition to the Land Resources Committee, both the Montana Town Board and the Buffalo County Highway Committee have recommended approving the permit.
