McCook Quarry resumes blasting for first time since November earthquake

McCook Quarry is reportedly set to resume blasting on Monday, according to the Chicago Tribune .
The Lehigh Hanson-owned quarry suspended blasting after a 3.2-magnitude earthquake shook parts of Illinois and Wisconsin in November following a routine blast.
Within two weeks of the tremor, officials with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) determined that the blast likely caused the earthquake . However, in a Dec. 15 report from The Doings La Grange , a geologist says there is not enough data to connect the earthquake to the blast at the quarry.
The Chicago Tribune report notes that the USGS is working to install a more sensitive seismograph at the quarry, which will allow the agency to better monitor seismic activity at the site. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is installing a second seismograph, according to the report.
Lehigh Hanson spokesman Jeff Sieg told the Chicago Tribune that the company intends to continue cooperating with the USGS.
