Queen Anne’s County Planning Commissioners last month unanimously voted to endorse a 90-acre expansion plan for sand and gravel pit Merrick Farm LLC in Ingleside, Maryland, according to a report from The Star Democrat [2].

The vote follows a decision by the Maryland Court of Special Appeals to strike down a 2009 regulation requiring operations to be approved in increments of 20 acres.

The commission also recommended the plant limit hours of operation from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday with trucks only allowed on site after 6:45 a.m., from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday with trucks only allowed after 7:45 a.m. and no operations on Sunday.

Merrick Farm requested clarification of the term “operation,” which the board of appeals will have to address.

The company has agreed to pay for road maintenance near the plant’s access.

The plant will continue to operate for no more than 28 years, at which point it will be reclaimed as an approximately 80-acre pond.
