Red Wing Mayor Dennis Egan, a professional lobbyist, registered in St. Paul to lobby for a newly formed sand council, made up of aggregate, trucking, and petroleum companies with interests in frac sand, the Star Tribune reports.

Not everyone in the community is happy about Egan’s dual role, however. City Council President Lisa Bayley told the newspaper that she’s received many “complaints, questions, and concerns” from residents about the mayor’s new role.

Egan has said that there are no applications pending before the city for frac sand facilities, so he doesn’t believe there is a conflict of interest.

Bayley and Council Member Peggy Rehder said that frac sand is an issue in Red Wing, as it deals with truck traffic issues and barge loading of frac sand from a city dock.
