MSHA realigns district mine inspection boundaries

The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) has announced that it has made some changes to current district office boundaries and assigned inspection areas for its Metal and Nonmetal program.
The changes took effect October 1, 2013.
MSHA says the jurisdiction over the Staunton, Virginia Field Office has been transferred from the Southeast District in Birmingham, Alabama to the Northeast District in Warrendale, Pennsylvania.
The Staunton Field Office was in the Southeast District from September 2010 until the changes took effect last year. Prior to its placement in the Southeast District, the Staunton Field Office was originally in the Northeast District.
MSHA says an increase in the number of field offices in the Southeast District made the transfer necessary. The agency adds that the transfer “will re-balance and level the workload within the program area in order to support the Agency’s mandated inspection completion initiative.”
