National Ready Mixed Concrete Association names new officers
The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association elected a new slate of officers at its annual convention held in March in Austin, Texas.
Association membership chose Tim Becken of Cemstone Concrete Products, Mendota Heights, Minn., as chairman of the Board of Directors, succeeding Henry Batten of Concrete Supply Company, Charlotte, N.C. Karl Watson, Jr., of Cemex, West Palm Beach, Fla., was elected vice chairman and David Robison of Delta Industries, Jackson, Miss., is now NRMCA secretary/treasurer.
Becken has been with Cemstone Concrete Products since 1991. He served as president of the Aggregate & Ready Mix Association of Minnesota in 1996.
Becken earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Olaf College, graduating cum laude. He has served on numerous NRMCA standing committees, including Educational Activities, Government Affairs, Strategic Planning and Operations, Environmental & Safety, and has also previously served on the NRMCA Board and Executive Committee.
Watson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business and an MBA. Prior to his current position, he headed the Western Division of Rinker Materials Corporation. He has previously served on the NRMCA Board and Executive Committee and various other NRMCA committees, including Government Affairs, Legal Activities, Educational Activities and Vision Strategic Planning. He is a member of the Association of Building Contractors and the American Concrete Institute. Previously, Mr. Watson served on the Board of the Florida Concrete and Products Association and currently serves as the chairman of that organization.
Robison has been with Delta Industries since 1971 holding various management positions. He was named president in 1995. His personal and professional affiliations include past president and director of the Mississippi Concrete Industries Association, chairman of its Business & Industry Political Education Committee and director of Mississippi Junior Achievement. He is a past chairman of NRMCA’s Government Affairs, PAC and Legal Activities committees and previously served on the NRMCA Board and Construction Industry Alliances Committee.
“I am extremely proud to have Tim as our chairman for 2010-2011,” said NRMCA President Robert Garbini in a press release from NRMCA. “Tim, the Beckens and Cemstone have a long history of leadership on the Board of Directors and committees of the association. Tim brings the same creativity and entrepreneurialship to the association that he has in his company. I know he is particularly focused on relations with the state associations and the work that will be coming out of the MIT Concrete Sustainability Hub. I’m indeed looking forward to this year.”
Garbini also praised the election of Watson and Robison to their respective positions on the board. “Both Karl and Dave have long been involved with NRMCA as industry leaders and, like Tim, will provide their valuable expertise to the Association.”
