Proven performance for Cat’s new large mining trucks
Caterpillar introduced its new F-Series large mining trucks — the 793F (shown) and 797F mechanical drive trucks, and the 795F AC electric drive truck. The company says its two mechanical drive trucks have accumulated more than 75,000 hours of field testing and have proven their performance capabilities and durability. The 795F AC electric drive prototypes, which are being tested at the Tucson Proving Grounds, will enter a new size class for Caterpillar.
The new trucks feature the Cat C175 16-cylinder diesel engine, which meets U.S. EPA Tier 2 emissions standards. The company says the new engine promises longer life between rebuilds, lower sound levels, improved altitude capability, and improved fuel consumption compared to the 3500 Series engines it replaces.
The 793F boasts a faster speed on grade to deliver 5 to 10 percent more productivity than the 793D. The new cab features enhanced ergonomics and easy-to-access controls for improved operator comfort and increased efficiency.
The new class size of the 795F AC offers customers more options by filling the gap between Cat’s large and small haul trucks. Four-corner blended retarding allows safe, fast downhill speeds, increasing operator confidence and machine control.
Ground-level access allows easier servicing and improved safety on the 797F. The truck’s increased horsepower provides a faster top speed to shorten cycle times and increase productivity.

Affordable wheel-mounted machines
KPI-JCI says its new RS Series products — jaw and cone crushers, mobile screens, and washing equipment — are the most affordable line of products it manufactures. The company says the line is designed for portability and simple operation and provides customers with a variety of options at an affordable price, yet doesn’t sacrifice toughness and durability.
Remote-controlled drill rig
Atlas Copco launched its new ROC D3-01 drill rig with a built-in, radio-remote-control (RRC) system. The system is powered by a 116 kW Cummins engine and offers two rock drill options — the 12 kW COP 1240 and the 16 kW COP 1640. The unit’s rod-handling system can manage up to five 12-foot rods. The rig can be equipped with the R32, T38, and T45 drill steels. The unit’s compressor has a free-air delivery capacity of 200 cubic feet per minute.
Mobile, versatile screen
Astec Mobile Screens says its new Multi-Frequency Screen is the most versatile screen on the market. The company says the unit allows for flexible sorting diameters and frequencies, without sacrificing performance or profit. According to the company, the screen integrates conventional and high-frequency screen movements to help maintain a higher production rate, which makes wet materials easy to manage. The screen can apply more amplitude and less frequency for coarse materials, and less amplitude and more frequency for finer materials. A low operating angle allows for safer maintenance and operation.
Next generation belt cleaner
Flexco says its new MHS Cartridge Cleaner is the mining industry’s first true slide-out cartridge cleaner. The unit slides out from one side of the conveyor or chute wall, allowing a single worker to inspect, service, or replace it in minutes, thereby minimizing downtime. The side slide-out design is also safer for workers, as it doesn’t require them to crawl underneath the conveyor or be in tight spaces within a chute.
Track-mounted mobile crusher
Sandvik’s QJ340 track-mounted mobile jaw crusher, formerly Fintec’s F1107 mobile jaw crusher, is powered by a C-9 engine that meets all known emissions standards. The company says the unit boasts a large feed opening and high crushing speed that delivers high outputs and excellent product size reduction. A reverse crushing action relieves blockages. Other features include hydraulically adjustable CSS for a variety of applications, a Vogel automatic central lubrication system to increase machine up-time, hydraulic legs for increased stability and servicing capabilities, and more.
High shear, natural attrition
McLanahan Corp.’s “ultra-clean” attrition scrubber uses radial and axial turbines to create high shear and natural attrition to address sand equivalency and durability problems in natural construction sands (as well as for surface cleaning of mineral sands and in soils washing applications). The company says the units are more power efficient and occupy a smaller footprint compared with blade mills or conditioners, yet have a more aggressive particle action; and that custom design agitation intensity and superior tank hydrodynamics lead to cost-effective installations compared with typical industry attrition cells.
