The RUMig from Ashross revolutionizes the way you unload rail cars. No longer do you have to dig big deep holes in the ground and spend tons of money to get rail cars unloaded quickly and efficiently. This unit is semi-permanently installed in a shallow pit and replaces fifty feet of existing rail at the selected operating site chosen for unloading. Preparatory work at the site includes excavation to accommodate the depth of the machine that is approximately 43 inches from top of rail to bottom of machine and a width of approximately twelve feet not counting possible optional walkways. Steel or reinforced concrete structures must be prepared to support the machine so that the ends of two 36 inch I-beams of the machine rest on about twenty-four inch purchases or landings. These I-beams act as a bridge over the fifty-foot length of the machine. The standard rails on the machine match up with the ends of the surface rails on each end. The excavation of the ground in the operating area may be modestly below the required depth of the machine keeping in mind that the machine may be hydraulically self-lifted twenty-four inches above its support points when servicing or cleaning is required.
It really is very simple to get the RUMig installed and up and running. When a rail car is positioned on the machine discharged material lands on or is conveyed laterally to a sixty-inch wide conveyor belt that exits the midpoint of the machine perpendicular to the line of the rails. This main conveyor may be of varying lengths ranging from ten to eighty feet or more and is supported by legs that may be adjusted in 6” increments to vary the height or degree of rise of the conveyor. This machine has a conveyor about sixty feet in length. Within the machine and on either side of the main exit conveyor belt are two 52” wide feeder belts between the rails and four 16” wide feeder belts outside of the rails between the rails and the retention walls of the machine. These six feeder belts move material to the main conveyor belt. Steel deflector plates are positioned above these belts. Retention walls on each side of the machine allow bottom dump rail cars to unload including those known as “rapid discharge” cars.
Speed of handling material is one of the key features of the RUMig. Depending upon the needs of the operation the main belt can unload with a belt speed of up to about 600 feet per minute at 60 Hz ranging to a low belt speed of about 160 feet per minute at 16 Hz. At 80 Hz the belt speed is about 800 feet per minute. The speed of the main belt is adjustable from about 20% of rated capacity to 100% of rated capacity in a linear fashion, as are the six feeder belts, by using variable frequency drives (VFD’s).
The Ashross RUMig can handle a wide variety of materials. The RUMig is designed to rapidly convey materials such as: Coal, petroleum coke, asphalt, grain, agricultural products, aggregates, roller compacted concrete, road chip, pea gravel, sand, sulfur, salt, leech pad gravel, pipe line aggregates and other materials from rail cars. The RUMig moves these materials quickly from the rail car to some other conveying system or just directly on the ground to be rehandled later.
