Quarry Hill Fall Festival to include sandstone cave tours

FallFestFlyer2013_000 [1]Quarry Hill Nature Center in Rochester, Minnesota, will host its annual Fall Festival on September 14-15 and will include tours of the site’s historical man-made sandstone cave, The Post-Bulletin reports [2].

According to Quarry Hill Nature Center [3], the site features old limestone quarries, which were used in the late-1800s and early-1900s, and the sandstone cave, which was excavated in 1882. The limestone quarries are home to several prehistoric fossils.

In addition to cave tours, the Fall Festival will include activities such as canoeing, cookie decorating, sand painting, animal survival games, candle rolling, rock climbing, and more. Tickets for these activities are are $1 each or $20 for 25 tickets, and proceeds benefit Quarry Hill and its educational programs.

Admission to the Quarry Hill Nature Center’s Fall Festival is free.
