Stronger performance, improved serviceability

Caterpillar says its new 390D L hydraulic excavator has a refined design that provides greater hydraulic power, stronger structural components, added safety and convenience features, and improved serviceability. The 198,570 pound-excavator’s Tier III-compliant, C18 Acert diesel engine boasts advanced electronic control, precise fuel delivery, and refined air management. The 5,080-horsepower engine is said to allow full power at maximum revolutions per minute for efficient hydraulic pump operation and positive hydraulic response.

Design enhancements in the implement’s hydraulic system allow greater digging and lifting forces than its 385C predecessor. The company says an increase in operating pressure, combined with larger diameter hydraulic cylinders, results in a 9-percent boost in digging arm and bucket breakout forces. Over-the-end lifting capacity is increased by 9 percent, and over-the-side capacity is up nearly 20 percent. The undercarriage features redesigned links that operate with lower stress, forged idlers for durability, and heavy-duty track rollers and carrier rollers. Service improvements include an electric fuel-priming pump, a dual-element air cleaner, filters that are accessible from the left side of the machine, easy-to-change spin-on filters, 20-inch-wide walkways, and an electronic warning system that alerts the operator if the air filter or hydraulic filter is approaching restriction limits.

Z-bar with Tier 4 Interim engine

LiuGong’s new fuel-efficient 842IV Z-bar wheel loader features a Tier 4 Interim, six-cylinder, four-cycle, turbocharged, water-cooled Cummins QSB6.7-C200 diesel engine that provides 193 net peak horsepower. The automatic-shift transmission, with a single-stage, three-element torque converter, transfers the engine power to provide a breakout force of 30,574 pounds. Travel speeds range from 26.2 miles per hour in forward to 16.5 miles per hour in reverse. The wheel loader’s automatic boom kick-out/return-to-dig feature ensures fast cycle times for loading using the standard 3.5-cubic-yard general-purpose bucket with reversible cutting edge. The ROPS/FOPS climate-controlled cab features an adjustable suspension seat, back-up alarm, rearview camera, and rotating beacon.

Suspended, permanent magnets

Eriez says its CP 20/80 suspended permanent magnets use a permanent magnet circuit to provide a continuous and uniform magnetic field across the feed belt, optimizing separation efficiency. The simple-to-install units measure 9.2 inches by 29.5 inches by 32.9 inches, weigh 2,313 pounds, and require no power to operate. It removes tramp metal from a 30-inch maximum belt width at a 10-inch suspension height. A self-cleaning belt provides automatic removal of accumulated tramp metal.

More power, cab improvements

John Deere has launched three new G-Series excavators with Tier 4 Interim-certified engines, more power, and cab improvements for increased visibility. The new series includes the 250G, 290G, and 350G, which range from 191 to 299 net horsepower. The new machines retain a number of key features from the previous D-Series, such as the Powerwise III management system. The cooling system cools on demand and has an optional reversing fan to blow out debris. The operator’s station features a full-suspension, high-back seat that adjusts independently from or together with the control console to accommodate any size operator. The next models within the series, the larger 470G, 670G, and 870G, will be formally introduced later this year.

Scales within the rail

Rice Lake Weighing Systems says its new RailBoss rail scales are integrated directly within the rail itself, costing about one-third that of conventional railroad scale designs. The scales install quickly and are said to require minimal space. When paired with Rice Lake’s 910i Programmable Indicator/Controller and RailBoss software, the scales offer capacities up to 320,000 pounds. The scales are available in either eight-section, full-draft systems or simpler four-section, double-draft models.

Remote-controlled stacker

Screen Machine Industries says its new 6036T track-mounted portable stacking conveyor will revolutionize the conveyor industry. According to the company, the wireless remote-controlled conveyor will match up to any track-mounted crusher or screening plant for “on-the-fly” mobility. Its counter-weighted design and heavy-duty channel frame provide great stockpiling capability. Hydraulic top fold and cylinder positioning is said to make job site transportation and set-up quick and easy.
