Portable frac sand processing
CEMCO, Inc. and McLanahan Corp. worked together to produce the industry’s first portable frac sand plant, offering an economical and efficient means to produce two sizes of frac sand used in oil and natural gas drilling applications. The plant is easily transported from one deposit site to the next. It is highway legal, meeting all state DOT requirements for transport. Only two operators are needed to assemble and disassemble the plant. Setup takes less than eight hours. CEMCO says the self-erecting plant is designed for high-volume production, offering an average output of 150 tons per hour, and is built for continuous-duty, 24/7 operation. A one-touch screen control panel regulates and determines the operation and characteristic of the entire plant. McLanahan offers training on the system and operation to every customer.
Komatsu America Corp. says its new WA500-7 wheel loader features a 353-horsepower Komatsu SAA6D140E-6 Tier 4 Interim-certified engine designed to provide increased power while decreasing fuel consumption. The loader features an operating weight of 76,611 pounds when equipped with a 7.3-cubic-yard general purpose bucket and has a maximum speed of 22.1 miles per hour. Additional features include Komatsu Smart Loader Logic, which increases engine torque when required; a large-capacity torque converter with lock-up for improved acceleration and hill-climb ability; a new cab design; and easy access for maintenance and servicing.
Next generation excavator
LiuGong Machinery Co. says its 922E next generation crawler excavator features additional power and control, a 5-percent improvement in operating efficiencies, and an 8-percent reduction in fuel consumption. The machine’s Intelligent Power Control System increases digging force by up to 10 percent for 10-second intervals. The no-time-limit heavy-lift system enables the operator to increase pressure to build force and reduce hydraulic flow to the attachment, while reducing speed. An automatic boom-descent regeneration system allows the boom to descend faster. A multi-working-mode selection system gives the operator the ability to match performance with the job. The excavator is powered by a Cummins QSB6.7 diesel engine rated at 127 kW.
Designed for extreme-duty
Altas Copco Construction Mining Technique says its new extreme-duty (XD) pedestal boom systems are the only ones on the market specifically designed for secondary rock breaking in mines and open pits. The boom systems are designed for use at grizzly stations in underground mines and at gyratory crushers in open pits. Key components — the pedestal boom’s flexi-base, slew mechanism, cylinders, and pin-locking system — are rugged enough to withstand the rigors of a harsh rock-breaking environment. The series includes five systems that offer a horizontal reach from 8.8 feet to 30 feet and have the ability to handle breakers weighing between 440 and 4,850 pounds.
Hyundai Construction Equipment Americas Inc. says its two new wheel loader lines — the HL740-9 and the HL757-9 — offer maximum performance, optimum precision, versatile machine preferences, and fast cycle times. Both machines are powered by Cummins Tier 3 ASB6.7 engines, which offer electronically controlled fuel-to-air ratio and clean, efficient combustion. For the HL740-9, operating weights range from 26,460 to 27,780 pounds, breakout forces range from 24,800 to 23,880 pounds, and buckets are 3 cubic yards in size. For the HL740-9, operating weights range from 32,000 to 3,070 pounds, breakout forces range from 27,620 to 28,220 pounds, and buckets are 3.7 cubic yards in size. Specialized models are available with Tool Master, for jobs requiring special attachments, and Extend Reach, for projects requiring a higher dump height.
Increased bucket capacity
Hitachi Construction Products’ new ultra-large, EX2600-6 hydraulic excavator is heavier than its predecessor and has more engine horsepower. The bucket capacity has been increased from 19.6 cubic yards to 22.2 cubic yards. The reach of the front attachment has been shortened, and the engine output boosted by 7 percent. The cooling performance of the radiator and oil cooler has been increased, due to the use of one large 60-inch fan. Hydraulic pump output has been increased by 10 percent, resulting in a higher flow rate at the same pressure. The auto-leveling crowd mechanism increases job efficiency with one-lever control. The EX2600-6 is offered in both backhoe and loader shovel configurations.

Superior Industries’ new Geotrek Conveyor is a track-mounted radial stacker that can be directly linked with portable crushing and screening equipment in applications that require material stockpiling. Equipped with independent hydraulic cylinders at both the head and tail ends of the conveyor, the unit can also be used as a mobile transfer or link conveyor. The conveyor features a powerfold design and is equipped with proportional track drive control, which allows smoother, steadier travel when the tracks are engaged. The 42-inch-wide by 8-foot-long conveyors are self-contained, each equipped with a 77-horsepower diesel engine.
Hybrid screen media
W.S. Tyler combined the durability and longevity of polyurethane with the greater open area and cost-effective characteristics of woven wire cloth to create its new Ty-Wire screen media. Comprised of high-carbon woven wire encased with an engineered grid comprised of polyurethane composite, Ty-Wire is able to withstand high temperatures and high tonnages, while offering a wear life up to six times longer than wire cloth, according to the company. The new material delivers up to 80 percent more open area than modular polyurethane, which minimizes blinding and virtually eliminates pegging. The hybrid design is also said to reduce maintenance costs and enhance product longevity. The media is compatible with any vibrating screen and requires no deck conversion before installation.
Designed for efficiency
Volvo Construction Equipment says its new D-Series excavators — the EC140D, EC160D, and EC220D — feature the latest fuel-efficient Tier 4 Interim-compliant Volvo engines and enhanced hydraulics, which means greater digging forces, faster cycle times, and better fuel efficiency. Each track is powered by an automatic two-speed shift travel motor and features greased and sealed track chains. The superstructure features anti-slip plates, steps, and handrails for safe access. Rear access behind the cab of the EC140D and EC160D models brings the main hydraulic components and engine within easy reach. Maximum net power ranges from 113 horsepower for the EC140D to 172 horsepower for the EC220D.
Philippi-Hagenbuch says its new rear-eject bodies are easily adaptable to any make and model of articulated off-highway truck, as well as a number of rigid-frame trucks. The rear-eject bodies eliminate the need to raise the body of the truck, allowing for safe dumping while in motion and in the presence of overhead barriers. Without moving or raising the truck bed, the ejector blade pushes material toward the rear of the truck. The company says the sweeping action of the blade virtually eliminates all material, even the material prone to sticking to the sides or floor of the truck bed.
MCR Technologies Group, Inc. has two new products available — the Weigh Shark Remote Display 3 and the Weigh Shark Ultra Sonic Scale. The Weigh Shark Ultra Sonic Scale (pictured) uses ultra-sonic sensor technology to measure materials on a conveyor at a high rate of speed with increased accuracy. It is designed for applications not compatible with a standard scale due to vibration, short conveyors with fast belts, and steep angles. The Remote Display 3 allows monitoring of up to 16 scales at a time. The 7-inch LCD monitor has one USB port and three serial ports. The display allows clearing of individual scale totals or all scales at one time.
Alstom Power, Inc. says its new Raymond Ultra Fine Mill is capable of outputting materials five times finer than other mill systems and consumes up to 50 percent less energy than competing mill technologies. The system is an air swept vertical ring mill in which a shaft rotates convex rolls inside concave grinding rings to reduce materials to high degrees of fineness in multi-stage process. Air flowing within the mill carries ground material through the classification process to achieve the desired fineness. The system offers flexibility to deliver products as fine as 50 percent passing 2 microns, or as coarse as 50 percent passing 10 microns.
