Caterpillar rolls out its 966M, 966M XE, 972M, and 972M XE wheel loaders — all equipped with Tier 4 Final ACERT engines. The XE powertrain technology, first introduced with the 966K XE, results in 25 percent lower fuel consumption compared to machines with traditional torque converters. It also simplifies operation with a two-pedal design and provides high performance at all speeds. The slightly larger 972M XE offers a three-pass match for loading large on-highway trucks. Disc-type differential locks improve tractive ability for poor underfoot conditions. The main hydraulic valve is now a mono-block (common across all M Series models). Its design reduces the weight and has 40 percent fewer leak points. Hydraulic system components are protected by full flow and kidney-loop filtration. New hydraulic implement pumps balance hydraulic loads with the operator’s desired machine performance. A new multipurpose touch screen simplifies operator interface with machine controls, rearview camera, and a fully integrated Cat Production Measurement system.

Terex Finlay’s I-100-RS direct-drive 34-inch by 34-inch horizontal impact crusher, with variable speed, combines fuel efficiency with production capabilities for quarrying and recycling applications. The robust crushing chamber is said to provide excellent reduction ratios and high consistency of product shape. The machine features an on-board 8-foot by 4-foot single-deck screen for sizing and recirculating oversize material back to the crushing chamber. The screen can be quickly detached when not needed, while hydraulic folding of all conveyors provides rapid set-up times. An advanced electronic control system monitors and controls rotor speed and regulates the heavy-duty vibrating feeder with integrated pre-screen to maintain a consistent feed to the crusher. An optional bypass conveyor is available to divert material from the pre-screen to a stockpile. The standard hopper capacity is a substantial 3.01 cubic yards.

The new 76 Series vibratory feeder from Eriez is the largest in the company’s line-up of compact feeders. It offers the same features and benefits as existing models in a supersize design to meet larger application requirements. It supports trays up to approximately 175 pounds and is available in all standard voltages.

Case Construction Equipment introduces the new M Series of dozers. Designed from the ground up and based on customer research, testing, and feedback, the new product line includes five models ranging from 92 to 214 net horsepower. Key features include best-in-class drawbar pull, increased horsepower ratings, the first selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology built into a dozer, fuel savings of up to 14 percent, extensive visibility, new versatile controls, and a pressurized cab for operator comfort. The new models include the 750 M (92 horsepower), 850M (112 horsepower), 1150M (127 horsepower), 1650M (150 horsepower), and 2050M (214 horsepower). An advanced load management system automatically reduces track speed with a heavier load on the blade and increases track speed with a lighter load on the blade, ensuring the machine works at optimal power and efficiency. New control customizations allow the operator to tailor machine performance to site conditions, including the ability to set blade sensitivity, steering sensitivity, and shuttle sensitivity.

Chicago Pneumatic offers the RX 30 and the RX 38, its newest additions to the RX line of rig-mounted, heavy hydraulic breakers. Ideal for rock excavation and quarry applications, the units are said to balance power and technology to increase productivity on the site. They feature hybrid gas/oil technology and fewer moving parts to reduce maintenance. Also incorporated in the RX line are noise and vibration dampening technology and a highly efficient internal control valve to make them some of the quietest breakers on the market. Suitable for carriers with a capacity of 55,100 to 88,200 pounds, the RX 30 weighs 4,850 pounds and has an impact rate of up to 620 blows per minute @ 5,500 foot-pound class. Specified for carriers with a capacity of 59,000 to 98,000 pounds, the RX 38 has an impact rate of 590 blows per minute @ 6,500 foot-pound class.

Topcon Positioning Group announces the release of the GR-5 receiver with Vanguard technology, designed to optimize tracking and performance. Said to offer unsurpassed sensitivity, tracking accuracy, and performance, the system can process signals in heavy vibration applications. It has both cellular and radio communications, which allows it to be used in radio-based RTK and network RTK systems. Hot-swappable batteries are designed to allow full-day operation.

Engine conversion kit
To help support the use of John Deere equipment around the world, the Construction & Forestry Division says it will bring to market a retrofit kit that will enable John Deere Tier 4 Interim machines to be sold in countries where ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel is not available. The conversion kits will be available in 2015.

Irock Crushers introduces the Sidewinder series of crushers. Designed to screen out a high percentage of the feed material that is already at the required size, it minimizes the amount of material run through the crusher for higher production and lower wear. The crushers feature a closed-circuit design and a four-bar impactor. They are capable of producing up to four product sizes — three sorted and one oversized product. A flop gate within the pant leg chute gives operators the option to either recirculate oversized material for further processing or divert it to the stockpile. Ideal for primary use in sand and gravel applications or for secondary use in crushed stone, they are available in three sizes, each with a three-deck horizontal screen. With screening areas of 210, 288, and 360 square feet, the Sidewinder 15, 20, and 30 can process 400, 600, and 750 tons per hour, respectively.

Electronic initiation system
Dyno Nobel rolls out GeoShot, the seismic industry’s newest electronic initiation system and data acquisition tool. The system allows operators to map, record, and analyze the geological properties beneath the earth’s surface with an energy pulse. To ensure accuracy and reliability, it provides two-way communication between the loaded detonator and a handheld device (the Tagger). The Tagger then matches data, including the detonator’s exact location.
