Clean, powerful operation
Hitachi Construction Machinery Co. says its new Zaxis-5 Series excavators — ZX160LC-5, ZX180LC-5, ZX210-5, and ZX201LC-5 — feature Isuzu Interim Tier 4 engines that deliver high productivity with fuel efficiency. A muffler filter helps reduce emissions by capturing air pollutants. Auto shutdown enhances fuel consumption and reduces noise, exhaust emissions, and carbon dioxide. These powerful, medium-sized excavators feature hydraulics with multiple sensors that instantly feed automatic micro-adjustments for increased hydraulic power to maintain steady movements.
Three work modes allow an operator to choose a digging style that fits the job. HP (high-productivity) delivers more power and faster hydraulic response; P (power) delivers a balance of power, speed, and fuel economy; and E (auto economy) maximizes fuel efficiency.
A multi-language LCD monitor in the cab tracks scheduled maintenance and provides diagnostic codes to assist in troubleshooting. Welded bulkheads within the boom resist torsional stress for unsurpassed durability. Booms, arms, and mainframes are warranted for three years or 10,000 hours, whichever comes first.
Tungsten-carbide-coated wear surfaces protect the bucket-to-arm joint. Reinforced-resin thrust plates, grooved bushings, and thermal-coated bucket joints increase arm and boom lube intervals to 500 hours; oil-impregnated HN bushings extend grease intervals to 500 hours for the arm/boom joint and 100 hours for the bucket joint. Vertical spin-on fuel and engine oil filters simplify service. Filters and checkpoints are conveniently grouped and centralized lube banks are easy to reach. All ZX Dash-5 excavators come standard with three years of ZXLink Ultimate, enabling 24/7 online access to machine location, health, use, fuel consumption, and other information.
Technological enhancements increase production
Komatsu America Corp. says its D375A-7 dozer features technological enhancements for increased production, fuel economy, extended component life, and operator comfort. The company says the dozer offers more horsepower and features an optimized blade profile, an enhanced operator station, and key mining specifications. Standard operating equipment, such as torque converter lockup, track-shoe slip control, power/economy mode, and ripping penetration, are said to exceed critical customer requirements. Other features include a K-Bogie undercarriage, Palm Command Control System, Komtrax Plus, and a low dB(A) noise level.
Optimized safety, enhanced technology
The newest addition to Hyundai Construction Equipment’s line of Robex 210, 9-Series crawler excavators is the R210LC-9. It features improvements that include optimized safety, enhanced technology and operator comfort, reduced operating costs, and extended component and wear-part life. The mid-size excavator is powered by a Cummins QSB6.7 water-cooled, four-cycle, low-emission diesel engine with 145 horsepower at 1,900 rpm. At 49,390 pounds, the machine has a dig depth of 18 feet, 7 inches and bucket digging force of 24,900 pound-feet. New steel-tube construction on the cab increases safety and durability. The excavator comes standard with a 7-inch-wide color LCD screen Cluster with toggle switch that allows the operator to select personal machine preferences, as well as power and work-mode selections, self-diagnostics, maintenance check lists, and machine security. Hi-mate, Hyundai‘s remote management system, provides access to the machine’s service and diagnostic information from any computer with internet access.
Powerful, productive, reliable
LiuGong Machinery Corp.’s new 877III wheel loader features a 10.8-liter, turbo-charged, electrical-control Cummins diesel engine that is said to deliver extra load-carrying power with its 50-percent torque rise, while keeping fuel consumption to a minimum. A hydraulically driven variable-speed fan cools the engine. A double-pump hydraulic system helps reduce energy loss, keeping power strong and consistent at the bucket. Emergency back-up steering is standard. The machine features a ZF automatic transmission and limited-slip front and rear differentials for improved control and efficiency.
The SK170 is the newest addition to Kobelco Construction Machinery America’s Mark 9 excavator series. The full-size excavator delivers up to a 10-percent improvement in both fuel efficiency and productivity and provides more power and faster engine response. The company says the machine is equipped with the industry’s first selective catalytic reduction emission solution for excavators. A new ROPS/FOPS certified cab provides a larger, more comfortable work environment; a low engine cover and standard wide-angle rearview camera improve operator visibility. The 115-horsepower machine features a fully automatic engine and hydraulic warm-up system that heats the hydraulic circuit to 126 degrees F. Additional features include an operating weight of 38,656 pounds, a bucket digging force of 24,900 pounds, and a maximum dig depth of 21 feet, 5 inches.
Lightweight, powerful breaker
Atlas Copco Construction Equipment says its new HB 4100 heavy hydraulic breaker has a service weight of only 9,039 pounds, designed for carriers in the 88,185- to 154,324-pound weight class, but is as powerful as much heavier breakers. Improvements to the breaker include a guide system that makes the breaker more stable and resilient, a new cover plate for the retaining bars that offers more protection in the lower part of the breaker, and increased wear protection at the bottom of the case. The breaker is suitable for secondary and primary rock breaking.
Alternative to grizzly feeders
The new line of N-Class vibrating screens from W.S. Tyler features four-bearing eccentric screening technology that helps minimize structural vibration and ensure smooth, efficient operation. The screens offer self-cleaning action to minimize common issues found with traditional grizzly feeders, including blinding and pegging. The N-Class is flexible enough to fit into most operations with an apron feeder, yet handles heavy-duty applications. Its eccentric shaft design forces the screen body to follow the shaft movement. While it travels upward, the counterbalance weights move in the opposite direction and create an equal force, thereby cancelling each other out.
Decreases cost per ton
Buffalo Wire Works says its new Clean PFX screens are engineered to decrease cost per ton through effective use of available deck screening surface area, greater specification produced per unit time, increased screen life, newly innovated polyurethane strips, and wires that vibrate independently from one another at different frequencies to prevent material build up. The screens are said to solve the toughest and most severe screening problems, while maintaining materials in spec and reducing blinding and pegging. An extensive range of openings is available, and no modification of the crowned deck is required. The screens are available in several models for different applications — Clean PFX-M Series, Clean PFX-N Series, Clean PFX-L Series, Clean PFX-Harp, and Clean PFX-Clean Slot.
Increased wear life
Metso says the wear-life of its Trellex ABC 70 belt scraper has been increased by 25 percent, stability and performance have been improved, and it is easier to install. The company has also improved the scraper’s production process to make it more available to quarries. The scraper is fully compatible with other Trellex Pre-Cleaner products, so no mechanical alterations are necessary if changing to a different blade type.
Easy conveyor idler replacement
Martin Engineering’s new EVO Return Roller is a track-mounted, pivoting, return-side idler that allows service and replacement from one side of the conveyor. The roller features an integrated fine adjustment to completely square the belt. Its one-pin quick-change function makes service fast and easy, so the roll can be replaced by one person. The assembly includes a three-piece adjustable hanger bracket and swivel/pivot component, which allows the roll to be swung away from its support prior to removing the entire assembly. Return rollers can be used anywhere the belt sags on the return side of the conveyor, or in situations where there are seizing issues that require frequent roll replacement.

• JDLink — a machine monitoring system that provides machine location, utilization measures, and maintenance tracking via an easy-to-use website.
• Fleet Care — a program that processes JDLink data, fluid analysis, and machine inspection results to identify problems, determine criticality, and e-mail corrective actions to take before it causes downtime.
• Service ADVISOR Remote — a program that enables a John Deere dealer to connect remotely to a machine to read diagnostic trouble codes and record machine performance data.
• Grade control systems — technology used to reduce the cost of a job in terms of labor, material, and engineering.
