Rosemount, Minnesota, residents last week expressed concerns about water use, population growth and hazardous waste issues associated with the proposed UMore Park , according to a report from Minnesota Daily .
The residents, along with Metropolitan Council and Dakota County staff, presented their concerns during the Alternative Urban Areawide Review’s (AUAR) public comment period, which ended July 10.
The University of Minnesota bought the land, located south of the Twin Cities, in the 1940s and has since grown it to 5,000 acres. Plans for the area include sand and gravel mines, industrial areas and a sustainable community.
According to the University of Minnesota , sand and gravel mining is scheduled to begin this year. The sites will produce concrete and asphalt, manufacture precast products and process raw aggregate materials. Dakota Aggregates LLC received its gravel and mining permits from the City of Rosemount in December 2012, and the company signed a 40-year agreement with the University of Minnesota Board of Regents in June 2011.
