September 2009 – RollOuts
by Kerry Clines, Senior Editor
Superior Industries says its new Slide-Pac three-unit conveyor system was designed to bring a whole new level of efficiency during loading and unloading. The unit has a roll-style slide-off system for safe and speedy unloading of the top two conveyors from the bottom trailer unit. The unloading process takes just minutes to complete. The three-in-one conveyor system is available in lengths of 60, 70, and 80 feet for a total of up to 240 feet of conveyor length. Its trailer unit can be raised to a 14-foot discharge height.
Customized screen deck
W.S. Tyler polled its customers before developing its new TAGG Screen, which the company says is the first vibrating screen designed specifically to meet the screening demands of the aggregates industry. The screen offers tailor-made deck configurations and a choice of wire or polyurethane cloth, with delivery in five days. Green engineering reduces the weight of the machine and extends the lifespan of key components, according to the company.
Medium-duty hydraulic breaker
Atlas Copco says its new MB 750 medium-duty hydraulic breaker has the highest output-to-weight ratio in its weight class. The breaker is powered by a combination of oil and gas, allowing it to recover energy by maximizing the recoil effect. The company says this boosts its output power, which results in less fuel consumption during operation. A double retainer bar system and DustProtector II help extend the breaker’s service life.
Heavy-duty grader attachments
Bobcat is offering two new 96- and 108-inch heavy-duty grader attachments. A hydraulic side-shift allows easier grading in tight areas and an end-wing kit allows the grader to be used like a box blade. Features include blades that move six different ways to grade any surface; a proportional hydraulic valve that provides three speeds for raising/lowering the moldboard; a front bolster that oscillates 12 degrees to the left or right to minimize the effect of uneven ground; and a dirt shield mounted on the moldboard to prevent material from coming over the top of the attachment.
Improved jobsite communication
The improved Instant Office portable jobsite briefcase office from 308 Systems operates as an independent field office, allowing field personnel to have full office capabilities from their truck. The compact unit is custom tailored to the specific needs of each company. Options include a waterproof carrying case, cellular or satellite Internet connection, remote jobsite radio interconnect, color printer, fax, copier, digital still/video cameras, document scanner, Global Positioning System mapping/directions, and more.
Revamped articulating cranes
Iowa Mold Tooling Co. Inc.’s new and improved articulating crane product line provides lift capacities ranging from 1,740 to 35,405 pounds maximum rating at a radius of 14 feet, 5 inches. The company added eight mid-range cranes with single-link or dual-link configurations. Additional features include an extension system equipped with a regeneration valve to increase working speed, ease of maintenance, hydraulic extension retrofit capabilities, and more.
Atlas Copco says its new lightweight, QLT 4 light tower has four 1,000-watt metal halide lamps and enhanced flicker-free lighting with 15 to 20 percent more efficiency. The mast extends up vertically to 31 feet and rotates 360 degrees. Other features include a runtime hour indicator, lockable enclosure, shutdown protection for low oil and high temperature, and a starting battery.
DBI-Sala says its Ultra-Lok RSQ SRL with Rescue is a first-of-its-kind self-retracting lifeline, offering dual-mode operation that provides both fall arrest and rescue/descent modes. In the fall arrest mode, a speed-sensing brake automatically stops the fall, reducing the forces exerted on the user to safe levels of 900 pounds or less. If a fall occurs while in the rescue/descent mode, the device will arrest the fall and automatically lower the worker safely to the ground or next level. A 50-foot lifeline provides the worker with mobility.
