St. Cloud City Council puts Coldspring expansion discussions on hold

The St. Cloud City Council last week unanimously voted to take more time to review an environmental assessment of the Coldspring’s proposed expansion of its operations in St. Cloud, Minnesota, according to a report from SCTimes.com .
Coldspring, formerly known as Cold Spring Granite, wants to expand operations at the 210-acre site by adding a 30-acre quarry, which would allow the company to excavate a depth of 300 to 350 feet in seven phases over 25 to 30 years.
At the most recent city meeting, residents expressed concerns about noise, truck traffic and water usage, though Coldspring representatives said some of the concerns have already been addressed in the permit process and others are too vague.
In order to expand operations, Coldspring will need to make amendments to its conditional use permit as well as receive permits from Stearns County and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. The company also needs approval from the Zoning Board of Appeals, City Council and mayor.
The council will resume discussions about the proposed expansion at the city’s August 12 meeting.
