St. Cloud ZBA to hold public hearing on Coldspring quarry expansion

Cold Spring Granite [1]Residents in St. Cloud, Minnesota, will have the opportunity to discuss Coldspring’s proposed quarry expansion [2] Tuesday night, when city’s Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) holds a public hearing on the quarry, according to a report from SCTimes.com [3].

The board is considering a conditional use permit that would allow Coldspring to open a 30-acre granite quarry and processing area on its 210-acre site, where it already operates a stone quarry. The permit would allow the company to excavate 300 to 350 feet in seven phases over 25 to 30 years.

Coldspring also wants to add a 16-acre pad for crushing equipment, conveyors, screens and stockpiles, as well as a new truck scale office of about 12 feet by 24 feet.

The St. Cloud City Council decided at its August 12 meeting that the proposed quarry [4]’s environmental impact had been reviewed enough to move the proposal to the Zoning Board of Appeals. The city council had previously postponed the discussion [5].

Once the Zoning Board of Appeals decides whether to grant the permit, then the mayor, City Council or applicant can appeal the decision.
