TEREX ANNOUNCES THE NEW QUICK ADJUST TEREX® CEDARAPIDS RC45 III ROLLERCONE®
The new quick adjust, 200 horsepower Terex® Cedarapids RC45 III ElJay® Rollercone® is a high production cone crusher with field-proven, high efficiency roller bearing design for low cost per ton of operation.
The RC45 III ElJay® Rollercone® features a hydraulic thread adjustment system that makes crusher setting changes quick and easy. Setting changes are accomplished in a fraction of the time required for shim systems. Adjustments are made utilizing a 5 HP electric/hydraulic module with manual controls that can be located up to 15’ from the crusher.
The manganese of the RC45 III rotates for uniform wear, which results in less maintenance, more uptime and consistent product sizing. To optimize crushing performance, the RC45 III design utilizes the proper combination of stroke, speed and head angle. This advanced crushing chamber technology yields a high percentage of sized product on the first pass and a highly cubical product. The RC45 III is also extremely versatile with its easily interchangeable crushing chambers which allow conversion from standard to fine configurations with a simple liner change. No special parts are required to change chamber configurations.

The roller bearing construction handles heavy operating loads, offers reliable operation, and delivers a long service life. The cone’s design distributes the load over the full 360-degree circumference, reducing friction and operational stresses on the crusher. The unique ElJay® rotating wedge plate transmits more of the input energy to direct compression crushing of the material and less into overcoming internal friction. The combination of the balanced wedge plate with bolt-on counterweights along with large roller thrust and radial bearings produce an action that is smooth, efficient, and nearly vibration free. Because there is less internal friction, the RC45 III roller bearing design directs more power into the crushing chamber. This, along with the long stroke and steep chamber design, allows the RC45 III Rollercone® to deliver large quantities of crushed product at a low cost per ton.
Weight and crushing stresses are spread over two radial and two thrust bearings so pressure in any one area is reduced. The low friction roller bearings generate less heat and require less oil. The RC45 III requires only 16 gallons of oil which is self-contained in the crusher base. An external lubrication pump assures an adequate oil supply to the bearings prior to start-up. A fail-safe alarm horn alerts the operator if oil flow drops below the required level.
A large unobstructed feed opening permits true choke feed. Motion at the top of the cone head helps position oversize material and slabs to enter the crushing chamber. The heavy-duty cone head and close tolerance bearings assure tight closed side settings at all load conditions. Due to the tighter tolerances, a true setting is maintained and oversize is reduced to about 20% when making a ½” minus product. This allows more feed material in the circuit with less recirculation and that means more final product on the ground at the end of the day.
When running empty, the wedge rotates, but the RC45 III cone head does not. The built-in, anti-spin brake prevents the cone head from spinning. This feature increases manganese life by not allowing material to skid on the wear liners. It also prevents ejecting material caused by contact with a high speed spinning cone head.
The RC45 III Rollercone® hydro-pneumatic tramp iron relief system passes uncrushable material quickly and efficiently. A feature unique to the Rollercone® system is that it is fully manifolded. All accumulators are connected so that they share the stresses generated by a major tramp event, providing redundant protection of crusher components. The accumulators are positioned within the upper assembly for protection. The lift of the tramp iron relief system allows objects up to 5 ½” to pass. The hold-down force of the system is 400,000 lbs which means the cone can be set close without bowl float for a high reduction ratio and increased production.
The RC45 III Rollercone® features a rugged base frame construction for reduced maintenance. Its one-piece, cast frame eliminates residual weld stresses which can cause premature failures.
A full size feed entry and a vigorous upper cone crushing action maximize throughput. The RC45 III’s unique head angle, head speed, and stroke combine to deliver capacity and quality in a wide range of feed materials. Available for stationary or portable plant configurations, the RC45 III is capable of handling sand and gravel, shot rock quarry, recycled materials and more.
