We finally have a highway bill. After three years and nine extensions, Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century (MAP-21) was signed into law on July 6.

Now we have $105 billion and 27 months to keep our surface transportation program solvent. 

But this new reauthorization program doesn’t mean the heartache is over. There are still the issues of long-term funding for the nation’s transportation program as well as necessary program reforms and streamlining provisions.

The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA)  is hosting a free webinar, ”MAP-21: What’s in it for my business?’,  at 3 p.m. EDT on Monday, July 30 to help those in the transportation construction industry understand how MAP-21 will affect their businesses throughout the next two years. 

Jack Schenendorf with Covington & Burling, LLP in Washington, D.C., will serve as the special presenter. According to the NSSGA, Schenendorf was described in BNA’s Daily Report for Executives, “as one of the most powerful staffers on the Hill, [who] has played a large role in crafting every piece of major transportation legislation in the past decade.” 

Schenendorf served for nearly 25 years on the staff of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure (T&I) of the U.S. House of Representatives. He also was Chief of Staff at T&I from 1995 to 2001.
