Friedrichshafen, 5 May 2009. For its new, “small” Series 1600 engine, MTU offers specially tailored service solutions for all relevant applications. Especially for operators of the new Series 1600 engines, MTU has again expanded its service network. In the future, MTU specialists will be available at more than 1,100 service locations in all parts of the world in order to provide individual customer support.

MTU is well-known as a reliable partner for technical product support: Fast, proficient and flexible in critical situations. For this purpose, MTU has highly qualified technicians and application engineers with long-term experience working at its service centers. In the future, more Series 1600 engines will be manufactured than any other MTU engine series. The MTU network for service and spare parts supply was therefore expanded on a large scale to accommodate this increased volume. In countries without service network locations, so-called multi-franchise partners or OEM service partners ensure proper maintenance of Series 1600 engines. Their technicians are professionally trained and have access to the entire original service documentation.

MTU has combined all engine-related services under the name
MTU Value Care. This includes MTU Value Service, which refers to the maintenance program. Conventional engine service is based on fixed intervals, for example the number of operating hours. Maintenance work includes the inspection, cleaning and preventive exchange of components if required. Furthermore, MTU offers an optional Remote-Services System. This solution is based on ADEC (Advanced Diesel Engine Control), a standard feature of all Series 1600 engines which provides for transmission of the latest data on operating condition and location via GPS and Internet to the MTU service center. The operator may thus get a convenient overview of the condition of his engine and plan preventive maintenance measures. A 24-hour hotline service answers all questions related to service issues. At the customer´s request, engine data is registered at MTU and compiled in a maintenance history record.

MTU Value Spares comprises the supply of fluids and lubricants as well as spare parts. MTU offers tested lubricants, coolants and filters as well as genuine spare parts. Typical service scopes based on the maintenance schedule are combined in spare parts packages. MTU´s design of the Series 1600 engine makes for exceptionally low repair costs. All cylinder versions (R6, 8V, 10V, 12V) have the largest possible number of interchangeable components. If customers operate Series 1600 engines in different cylinder versions, they can use the spare parts for all Series 1600 engines. This reduces the number of spare parts needed and thus minimizes storage costs. For its Series 1600 engines, MTU guarantees long-term spare parts availability which exceeds legal requirements.

As a replacement for defective or worn parts, MTU offers components or complete engines. They are professionally remanufactured at the MTU plant and covered by the manufacturer’s warranty. In addition, MTU overhauls customer engines which are then returned to the customer.
