Vulcan’s Calera Quarry recognized by MSHA for outstanding safety

Birmingham, Ala.-based Vulcan Materials Co. announced that its Calera Quarry was recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) for outstanding safety achievement. The quarry’s employees have worked since February 2006 — over 1.2 million man-hours — without a lost time injury, and over 500,000 man hours without a medical case.

In a letter to Calera Plant Manager Terry Cummins, MSHA’s Southeast District Manager Michael Davis said, “I want to thank each of you for the personal effort you make toward a safe and healthful work environment. To achieve this notable safety and health record is quite an accomplishment.”

Don James, Vulcan’s Chairman and CEO said, “I congratulate the Calera Quarry employees on their achievement and thank them for demonstrating Vulcan’s steadfast commitment to employee safety and health.”
