The White House threatened on Monday to veto the House’s proposed spending bill for the Departments of Transportation (DOT) and Housing and Urban Development (HUD), according to a report from our sister site, Better Roads .
The bill calls for $44.1 billion in federal spending for transportation and housing–$7.7 billion below the current spending levels. The White House said on Monday those cuts were too steep for President Obama’s approval.
The White House said in a statement that the proposed budget “severely undermines critical investments in economic and community development programs that drive local innovation, while also significantly reducing resources for public improvements, air traffic control infrastructure, affordable housing, as well as public services for low- to moderate-income families.”
The statement also noted: “If the President were presented with H.R. 2610, his senior advisors would recommend that he veto the bill.”
