Wisconsin town rejects rezone request that would allow for new quarry

The plan commission in the town of Troy, Wisconsin, on Monday unanimously rejected a rezoning request from Kraemer Company that would have allowed the company to construct and operate a new 60-acre gravel quarry, according to a report from The Sauk Prairie Eagle .
At its August 26 meeting, the commission said it denied the request because it took into consideration the wishes of town residents.
The area where Kraemer wanted to build the quarry is currently under agricultural zoning.
At a plan commission meeting in April, about 100 residents showed up to object, noting such concerns as noise, water quality and what residents call “spot zoning,” which refers to rezoning in opposition to the town’s ordinance.
The town’s plan allows for one quarry operation, and one quarry already exists.
