More than 350 runners of all skill levels took part in the 10th annual Rock the Quarry Trail Challenge 5K and Kids Fun Run on September 16, 2017, at Grove Stone & Sand in North Carolina, Black Mountain News reports. The event is held each year by Hedrick Industries, owner of Grove Stone & Sand, and Asheville-based Carolina CAT.

The record crowd brought in $60,000-$70,000 to benefit the Black Mountain Home for Children and the Asheville Museum of Science.

“We were blessed with a beautiful day and a bunch of smiling faces,” Jon Neumann, one of Hedrick’s employees that organized the race, told the news agency.

Dozens of children participated in the fun run that looped around a small pond, before the hundreds of 5K runners took inn the quarry. Will Norris was the top overall finisher with a time of 18 minutes. David Short and Jonathan Ibach rounded out the top three overall finishers, and Anna Wheatly was the top finisher among the women with a time of 20 minutes, 31 seconds.
