According to new rankings from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), three of Cemex’s quarries are among the top 25 Crushed Stone Operations in the United States in 2015. Balcones Quarry in New Braunfels, Texas, was the number one producing quarry, with FEC Quarry in Miami ranked fourth.

Balcones Quarry produces approximately 10-12 million tons of limestone materials per year and employs more than 100 employees. Cemex recently installed a water recycling plant that uses 90 percent less water annually than its previous wash plant.

FEC Quarry in Florida is also recognized for its community involvement. It was named a Bronze Community Relations Award winner by the National Stone Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA) at its annual convention in March 2017.

When Cemex looked for ways to improve company performance, it turned to six core values determined by its employees.

“Our quarries are crucial parts of Cemex, and we are proud to set the standard for our industry,” Cemex USA President Ignacio Madridejos says in a press release. “Cemex quarries provide the products our customers need every day to build better communities, and our employees do it while putting safety and sustainability first.”

Cemex’s Krome Quarry in Florida was also ranked among the top 25 quarries in the nation.
