The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) issued an Equipment Alert for Kidde fire extinguishers. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has also issued an alert. Effective Nov. 2, 2017, Kidde Co. is recalling 134 models of its plastic-handled fire extinguishers manufactured between 1973 and today. Some of the fire extinguishers can become clogged or require excessive force to discharge and can fail to activate during a fire emergency. Some of the extinguishers have been known to come apart under pressure, causing one death. Some of the extinguishers were sold under Kidde’s brand, and some were sold under other retailers’ names. Kidde will replace all of the defective models.
