The new Terex Cedarapids CRJ3054 jaw plant combines a JS3054 jaw crusher with a high-stroke, 52-inch x 20-foot vibrating grizzly feeder for high production. Plant features include a new hopper design, wedge release jaw dies, hydraulic assist jaw crusher setting, and crusher isolation mount to reduce plant vibration. The tail of the product conveyor lowers for operation, maximizing clearance under the jaw crusher. The conveyor discharge height adjusts to reduce material impact on the receiving conveyor. Options include a rock breaker, folding hopper wings, hydraulic jacks, hydraulic deployed switchgear, and several axle configurations.
Modular conveyor guards
ASGCO says its new Safe-Guard modular conveyor flat guards are pre-engineered to install easily and prevent workers from unauthorized access to areas within the conveyor system. The guard is shipped with complete mounting kits for quick assembly, which allows for drop-in installation anywhere on the conveyor system. The drop pin and wedge clamps hold the guard securely. Various standard and custom sizes are available.
Increased productivity, fuel efficiency
Caterpillar says its new 336E hydraulic excavator, which replaces the 336D, features a more powerful Tier 4 Interim engine that delivers 12 percent more power, 4 percent faster cycle times, and 5 percent more lift capacity than the 336D while improving fuel efficiency by 2 percent. Fuel-saving features include an electric regeneration valve that captures and recycles energy when the boom is lowered, an engine shutdown setting that enables operators to specify how long the machine should idle before shutting down the engine, and the ability to reduce engine speed to idle at the touch of a button. Isochronous speed control maintains constant engine speed regardless of load. The engine exhaust aftertreatment regeneration system ensures the machine works as normal with no operator intervention needed. The new cab is sealed and sound insulated and features ROPS. Joystick consoles are adjustable, and the seat is wider for enhanced operator comfort.
Greater horsepower, production
Hitachi says its new ZX Dash-5 excavators — ZX470LC-5, ZX670LC-5, and ZX870LC-5 — have greater horsepower combined with optimized hydraulics for bigger arm and bucket digging forces, resulting in more material moved per gallon of fuel. The roomier cab offers a larger door with more glass for better visibility to the side, a heated air-suspension high-back seat for excellent support, and a new easy-to-operate multi-function monitor with rotary dial for enhanced diagnostic features. A hydraulically driven reversible fan cleans debris from the radiator screen; the fan runs only when needed, reducing noise, fuel consumption, and operating costs. The new exhaust filter, consisting of a diesel oxidation catalyst/diesel particulate filter, requires no daily attention due to its 4,500-hour service life.
Excellent fuel efficiency
Caterpillar’s new 966K (shown) and 972K wheel loaders feature new designs and engines certified to meet Tier 4 Interim emissions standards. The company says the loaders feature a new operator station, new electro-hydraulic steering with either joystick or steering wheel control, Performance Series buckets, and a more efficient drive train. A new Cat C9.3 ACERT engine powers both machines. At 1,800 rpm, it delivers peak net power of 267 horsepower on the 966K and 288 horsepower on the 972K. The loaders accommodate buckets ranging in size from 3.25 to 13 cubic yards and can be equipped with a Cat Fusion coupler and a variety of work tools.
Recyclable screening media
In response to customer requests and in keeping with its sustainability program, Metso replaced the traditional steel reinforcement on its Trellex LS rubber modular screening media systems with an environmentally friendly composite material that makes it possible to recycle the media. Metso is also implementing a program to provide its customers with a suitable range of recycling services. Each screening media panel of the Metso Trellex LS-Eco is up to 40 percent lighter than standard steel reinforced panels, making handling easier and safer. The composite-reinforced panels are more flexible and are said to reduce the effects of pegging and blinding during screening operations.
Exceptional performance in aggressive applications
TB Wood’s says its Premium Belts have the highest power density of any V-belt and stretch less than standard cross sections, which makes them ideal for use on problem drives requiring high-impact strength and load-carrying power. Premium Banded belts feature a multiple-layer tie band that provides lateral rigidity to prevent belts from turning over or from coming off the drive. Premium Single belts can be used with deep groove sheaves and drives with limited room for “take up,” and can be an “A” section solution for multi-groove A/B sheaves. Premium V-belts are said to handle 1.4 to 2.2 times more horsepower than equivalent sized standard V-belts. A “clutching” non-rubber-surfaced cover allows momentary slippage due to excessive overloads without burning up the belts. Kevlar or Aramid tensile cords yield extraordinary strength, durability, and virtually zero stretch, according to the company.
TruckWeight says its new scale for mechanical suspension systems can be quickly, easily, and inexpensively mounted as an aftermarket installation. The scale requires no welding or special tools and can, typically, be installed in one hour on tractors and trailers with walking beam, leaf-spring, and other mechanical suspensions. The product consists of a set of strain gauges or sensors, transmitters, and a handheld receiver. With a range of 500 feet, the receiver displays axle group and gross vehicle weight readings in three-second intervals. The gauge mounts directly to the suspension with a high-strength adhesive.
Cummins says its new QSX15 engine is the next step in meeting near-zero emissions levels in 2014. According to the company, the 15-liter, heavy-duty engine will meet EPA Tier 4 Final and EU Stage IV emissions with an ultra-clean aftertreatment system combining the Cummins Particulate Filter with Selective Catalytic Reduction (CPF-SCR). The new 675-horsepower top rating for the QSX15 takes the Tier 4 Final engine 75 horsepower above the Tier 4 Interim top rating of 600 horsepower. The QSX11.9 engine increases power output for Tier 4 Final with a new top rating of 525 horsepower and shares the same engine technology and CPF-SCR ultra-clean aftertreatment system as the QSX15. Engine power density for Tier 4 Final increases to 45 horsepower per liter for the QSX15 and 44 horsepower per liter for the QSX11.9. At Tier 4 Interim 2011 emissions levels, the QSX15 and QSX11.9 engines can achieve up to 5-percent improved fuel efficiency compared to Tier 3, depending on duty cycle and machine optimization. Fuel efficiency will be further increased for Tier 4 Final 2014 by an additional 3 to 4 percent, according to the company.
Haul truck tire
Titan Tire Corp.’s new DTE4 haul truck tire offers radial construction and a deep lug tread pattern to enhance durability, dissipate heat, and provide traction. The tire features an E-4 tread depth that is said to promote long tread life and excellent traction, while the open, non-directional tread pattern provides excellent self cleaning and an extra bite on the ground. An open center tread design helps reduce internal heat generation and allows the heat to dissipate easily, reducing tire fatigue and extending tire life. Available sizes include 18.00R33, 24.00R35, 27.00R49, and 33.00R51.
Severe-duty for Class 7, 8 markets
Freightliner Trucks’ new line of Severe Duty (SD) trucks is designed to serve the Class 7 and 8 vocational markets. The line features options such as front frame extensions and radiator-mounted grilles for body attachment installations. The Cummins ISB and ISC engines provide a power range of 200 to 350 horsepower and 520 to 1,000 pound-feet of torque. The 108SD features a 42-inch, set-back axle position with axle ratings that range from 10,000 to 20,000 pounds for front axles, and single and tandem rear axle options from 21,000 to 46,000 pounds. The 114SD model features a set-forward axle configuration with a standard 31-inch, front-axle position and optional 29.5-inch bridge-formula configuration, and a standard 48-inch, set-back axle configuration for maximum maneuverability. Front axle ratings are available up to 23,000 pounds and heavy rear-axle configurations for single axles are available up to 38,000 pounds. Tandem axles are available up to 58,000 pounds and tridem axles up to 69,000 pounds.
Cat unveils vocational truck
Caterpillar says its new CT660 vocational truck with set-back axle configuration is the first model in a full line of Class 8 vocational trucks. Engine options include the Cat CT11, CT13, and CT15, which provide horsepower ratings from 330 to 550 and peak torque ratings from 1,450 to 1,850 pound-feet. The engines are designed to provide customers with the flexibility to match power and performance to the specific application and operating condition. The engines feature an advanced exhaust gas recirculation system with a high-pressure, common-rail fuel system; a precision intake air management system; and electronic controls to provide a blend of high performance, low emissions, and fuel economy. The company says the compact Grapite engine block reduces weight by as much as 500 pounds compared with conventional all-iron designs, and the aluminum-alloy cab weighs 250 pounds less than conventional steel cabs. The Cat CX31 automatic transmission option with six forward speeds and one reverse speed features heavy-duty clutches and gear sets that allow full power shifts.
Lightest weight configurations
XL Specialized Trailers Inc.’s four new trailers — the XL 170 MG, the XL 110 HDG, the XL 110 HDG customized, and the XL 100 HFG — are built to haul heavy construction equipment and off-road trucks. The 13-axle XL 170 MG West Coast trailer boasts one the lightest weight configurations at 57,440 pounds, yet it hauls loads up to 170,000 pounds. It can also be configured to accommodate weight-specific loads.
The XL 110 HDG trailer features a low-profile upper deck and flip-neck design. The XL 110 HDG customized trailer is 54 feet long and features a low-profile, scraper-style upper deck and 36-inch flip-neck design. The main deck is equipped with steel pullouts on 18-inch centers capable of handling up to 60,000 pounds. Both the XL 110 HDG and XL 110 HDG customized trailers accommodate multiple truck sizes and handle loads up to 110,000 pounds distributed.
The XL 100 HFG trailer is 50 feet, 10 inches long and has a load rating of 100,000 pounds distributed. It is built with Z-channel crossmembers on 9-inch centers and top flange reinforcement.
Self-lifting hydraulic cylinders
Trail King’s new Advantage Plus! Series Hydraulic Detachable Gooseneck (HDG) trailer features a new gooseneck design that includes self-lifting hydraulic cylinders, non-ground bearing design, and V-shaped alignment guide. The series also features a new five-position gooseneck door adjustment that allows for a full 8-inch range of king-pin height settings, plus a notched setting control bar to take the guesswork out of setting the gooseneck doors in the desired position. The new arched design of the gooseneck provides ample truck frame clearance, even when set at the lowest king-pin height. Also new are the heavy-duty pullout front outriggers that are built right into the frame.
Stainless steel cleaners
Flexco is offering four new conveyor belt cleaners — the Mineline MSP standard-duty precleaner, Mineline MMP medium-duty precleaner, Mineline MHS heavy-duty secondary cleaner, and Eliminator U-type secondary cleaner. In response to market demands, the cleaners are now available in stainless steel to handle demanding beltlines.
