SME announces new director of operations, human resources administrator, MEC curriculum coordinator

SME logoThe Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) announced this week that three new associates have joined its team of specialists.

Tim Reagan, SME’s new director of operations, will be responsible for the membership, meetings and publications departments. Reagan previously worked with the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) as senior vice president of member services, in which he was responsible for membership recruitment and retention, marketing and communications, meetings and planning services and social media. He has also held positions as executive director of the Aggregate & Ready Mix Association of Minnesota and director of marketing for Lafarge Corporation.

Michelle Davidson has taken on the newly-created position of human resources administrator. Davidson has 26 years of experience as a certified professional in human resources and provides skills such as employee recruitment and retention, staff development, mediation, conflict resolution, benefits and compensation, HR policies and procedures and legal compliance. She has previously worked with Digital, Compaq, Hewlett Packard and ADP Total Source PEO Services.

Rebecca L. Smith, SME’s Minerals Education Coalition (MEC) curriculum coordinator, will be responsible for creating K-12 curriculum and activities related to the importance of minerals and mining. Smith previously worked with the Denver Museum of Nature and Science as senior earth science educator and visitor programs manager, as well as with the New Mexico Rural Science Education Project (NMRSEP) as teacher trainer and curriculum developer. During her employment at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History, Smith led an outreach program that trained teachers in rural schools to use natural resources in teaching earth, life and environmental sciences.
