McLanahan Dewatering Screens

Over 30 years ago, McLanahan Corporation was the first to introduce Dewatering Screens to the mining industry, where the screens quickly became the standard.

McLanahan Dewatering Screens feature custom engineered, heavy duty screen media for the high capacity applications encountered in today’s production conscious market. Side frames and beams are Huck bolted together, not welded, so individual components can be replaced. They also have a combination of standard, high quality wear resistant side wear linings, optional deck dividers, and dams. Performance flexibility is enhanced by variations in screen media and the use of deck dividers. McLanahan Dewatering Screens have the highest capacities available in the industry and can process up to 400 tph of coarse sand on a single machine. Available sizes are 3′ x 8′, 4′ x 10′, 5′ x 12′, 6′ x 12′, 7′ x 12′, and 7′ x 16′.

McLanahan’s Plate & Frame Filter Press has revolutionized fines dewatering with the most efficient, cost effective technology in the industry.

The Patented Hydro-Pneumatic Cushion System applies uniform pressure to the entire plate ensuring a leak-free plate seal.  With pressures of 290, 580 and 870 psi, the press can dewater even the most difficult sludge, including those with a high clay content. The PLC controlled press can be built for varying chamber thicknesses to produce the driest cake for each specific slurry with moisture contents down to 15%.

Log Washers

McLanahan Mudmaster and Super Mudmaster Log Washers

In 1890, Samual McLanahan, 2nd Generation, conceived an idea to wash clay from the rock in his Florida phosphate deposits. Inside a long box, he mounted wooden logs and attached cast iron paddles to them. On January 27, 1891, he secured a patent for his new machine and called it the Log Washer. From that day on, McLanahan employees have continually updated his design to include the most modern technology and design features available.

Log Washers are designed to remove tough plastic clay, soft rock or other friable waste. Using renewable, abrasion resistant paddles affixed to a twin shaft design ensures that an aggressive washing action breaks down even the toughest clay.

Log Washers can effectively remove up to roughly 15% clay and deleterious materials in the feed.

Used around the world for washing gravel, cemented aggregates, limestone, phosphate and various ores, McLanahan Log Washers have set the standard by which all others are measured. These high quality, highly durable machines perform well under the toughest clay conditions with minimum power, water and downtime.

Coarse Materials Washers

McLanahan Coarse Material Screw Washers

Coarse Material Screw Washers are used primarily to process crushed stone and gravel that generally range from 3/8″ to 4″. They effectively remove light, loamy-type clays, dirt, crusher dust and coatings that cannot be removed by wet screening alone.

The selection of a Coarse Material Screw Washer (CMSW) is based upon the type of material, desired capacity and maximum feed size. A CMSW can be

furnished with our standard 20 paddles, 40 paddles or ALL paddles. More paddles provide a greater washing action, but at a reduced capacity.

Fine Material Washers

McLanahan Fine Material Screw Washers

 Screw Washers are an effective way to wash, dewater, deslime and control the bottom end of the gradation.  McLanahan Fine Material Screw Washers are easy to operate and maintain.

Fine Material Screw Washers Serve 3 Primary Functions:

  • WASH – Removes slimes, silts and clays by allowing the material to roll and tumble upon itself, which causes material on material attrition. The waste particles are absorbed into the water and discharged over the weirs.
  • DEWATER – By moving material up an inclined box via a spiral screw shaft, free water is allowed to drain away from the material into a drainage trough.
  • CLASSIFY – Controlling the weir heights provides maximum retention of desirable product while allowing undesirable “fines” to float over the weirs. 

The selection of a Fine Material Screw Washer is based upon the type of material, feed gradation, desired product specification, capacity required and water volume, if in a slurry feed. All of these factors MUST be taken into consideration for proper sizing.


McLanahan Thickener

The McLanahan designed High-Rate Thickener is simple in design and operation with specific benefits for today’s producers.  After removing usable materials from the effluent stream, Thickeners recover immediately re-usable process water adjacent to the plant site.

The availability of water at the point of use substantially reduces pumping HP. Because the volume of the Thickener’s effluent is small, there’s no need for large settling ponds and process water ponds to take up valuable real estate and other resources. This, then reduces water consumption and mitigates environmental issues.


McLanahan Rotary Scrubbers

Building our first rotary equipment in 1895, McLanahan has earned the reputation for being “reliable, rugged, stout and designed to last forever.” We have pushed ahead with new innovative designs and process ideas, always searching for ways to include modern components and features that make an operation more profitable. Rotary Scrubbers come in many styles and configurations. Using our vast rotary experience, McLanahan ensures that the correct machine is selected for every application.

Rotary Scrubbers can be used as a primary washing device to remove loamy, soluble clay completely or as a pre-washing device prior to crushing, screening and additional washing equipment.

These units can be outfitted with either single or double shell screen extensions to dewater and separate materials.  Trommel Screens or Trommel Scrubbers offer an efficient way to remove soluble clays while screening material at the same time.

 The continuous lifting and dropping action in rotary equipment helps abrade, scrub and break-down soluble contaminates in the feed material. Rotary Scrubbers can handle large feed sizes and high tonnages in comparison to other types of washing equipment. As an added benefit, they are lower in operating and maintenance costs.

The Sand Stabilization Process (SSP) uses proven mineral processing techniques to effectively deal with deleterious materials affecting Durability and SE’s. By creating an environment of high shear, coupled with state-of-the-art dewatering and desliming technologies, the process is a significant improvement over Screw/ Blade-mill based processes which are a current industry standard.
